A clean sweep!

http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/i...lard_sweeps_rookie_of_the_month_honors_r.html

Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard has been named NBA Western Conference rookie of the month for April, sweeping all six of the monthly awards during his stellar first NBA season.
Lillard is the eighth player to sweep NBA rookie of the month honors, following Ralph Sampson, David Robinson, Tim Duncan, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul and Blake Griffin.

It's now only a matter of time before the 6-foot-3 Lillard, who was drafted No. 6 by the Blazers last June, takes home the bigger prize: NBA Rookie of the Year.

In April, Lillard led all rookies in scoring (19.0 ppg), assists (6.2 apg), field goals (61) and three-pointers (19).

These used to make me so happy and now they just piss me off knowing that he won't win ROY unanimously

Well, if you go on advanced month by month award winners, Damian is in 9th place.

How crazy would it be if an East and a West rookie each swept the monthly awards in the same season? That would be an epic end-of-season ballot.

Look for NY's Chris Copeland to edge Lillard out for ROY. Damn NY media.

That's an impressive list. If Lillard achieves that level of play as the others, we've gotten damn lucky.

If he could get the Blazers to the conference finals, and an NBA finals, I'd consider sending the Nets my kidney.

They could probably get more usage out of your kidney than they are currently getting out of Gerald Wallace.

That's exactly what happened with LeBron and Carmelo in 2003-04 (see list above). LeBron won the ROY with 78 1st place votes to Carmelo's 40.

BNM

Fortunately ROY doesn't mean diddly squat. In fact, I'd be pleased if he was SNUBBED for ROY, because he's the type of player that that would motivate.

Can anyone conjure up a comparison of Lillard's and Anthony Davis's stats for April? Seems to me Davis was doing very well. I'm actually surprised Davis didn't win any of the month awards, because he beats Lillard hands down in "advanced" stats like PER.

I don't think he played in April. They shut him down.

I guess he only missed the last three games. I thought he was injured earlier in April.

Vs Golden State - 6 points, 9 boards, 1 steal, 1 blocked shot

Vs Utah - 24 points, 12 boards, 3 blocked shots

Vs Phoenix - 20 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 blocked shots

Vs Lakers - 18 points, 14 boards, steals, 1 block

Vs Sacramento - 13 points, 10 boards, 2 blocks

Vs Clippers - DNP

Vs Dallas - DNP

Vs Dallas - DNP

Lillard's April

Vs Utah - 17 points, 5 assists, 5 boards

Vs Memphis - 17 points, 6 assists, 4 boards

Vs Houston - 11 points, 7 assists, 3 assists, 2 steals

Vs Dallas - 15 points, 4 assists

Vs Lakers - 38 points, 9 assists, 3 steals

Vs OKC - 10 points, 8 assists, 3 boards

Vs Denver - 30 points, 6 assists, 5 boards, 2 blocks

Vs Clippers - 12 points, 8 assists, 3 boards

Vs Golden State - 21 points, 3 assists

So a couple monster games, a few good games, and a few "meh" games. All in all, I think Lillard's monster games were bigger than Davis' monster games.

Thanks for doing that. Can we compare minutes played, too?

Serious question: does anyone believe that, barring injury, Lillard will be regarded as the better player in 3 years? It seems to me that you'd have to be a pretty tremendous homer to believe that. And it's not surprising, after all Davis was "the one superstar" in this draft, by consensus. I'm ecstatic that we got a player who was better than his draft position for once.

Records > minutes played > "advanced stats"

The rookie of the year award should go to the player with the most production, and Lillard has hands down achieved that.

If he can't stay healthy, it doesn't matter how much talent he has. If Lillard ends up being as durable as he showed this season, and Davis ends up being as fragile as he showed this season, Lillard will end up being the better player in the long run.

No one likes a show off. He should have only taken a couple of the awards and let the needier/less talented players have a few.

...kind of the reason I said "barring injury".

But saying "barring injury" about Davis is a pretty big qualifier. It would have been like saying, "barring injury: will Greg Oden be better than Kevin Durant in three years" during his rookie season. Until Davis shows he can stay healthy, his durability will have to be a factor when we predict and outcome.
