Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard has been named NBA Western Conference rookie of the month for April, sweeping all six of the monthly awards during his stellar first NBA season.
Lillard is the eighth player to sweep NBA rookie of the month honors, following Ralph Sampson, David Robinson, Tim Duncan, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul and Blake Griffin.

It's now only a matter of time before the 6-foot-3 Lillard, who was drafted No. 6 by the Blazers last June, takes home the bigger prize: NBA Rookie of the Year.

In April, Lillard led all rookies in scoring (19.0 ppg), assists (6.2 apg), field goals (61) and three-pointers (19).

That's exactly what happened with LeBron and Carmelo in 2003-04 (see list above). LeBron won the ROY with 78 1st place votes to Carmelo's 40.

So a couple monster games, a few good games, and a few "meh" games. All in all, I think Lillard's monster games were bigger than Davis' monster games.

Serious question: does anyone believe that, barring injury, Lillard will be regarded as the better player in 3 years? It seems to me that you'd have to be a pretty tremendous homer to believe that. And it's not surprising, after all Davis was "the one superstar" in this draft, by consensus. I'm ecstatic that we got a player who was better than his draft position for once.

Records > minutes played > "advanced stats"

The rookie of the year award should go to the player with the most production, and Lillard has hands down achieved that.

No one likes a show off. He should have only taken a couple of the awards and let the needier/less talented players have a few.

But saying "barring injury" about Davis is a pretty big qualifier. It would have been like saying, "barring injury: will Greg Oden be better than Kevin Durant in three years" during his rookie season. Until Davis shows he can stay healthy, his durability will have to be a factor when we predict and outcome.
