There's one other way to look at this.... he could be talking up Kaleb so he can get another job in the NBA after he's let go. Everyone likes Kaleb, that's not the problem, but he's not the most qualified man for the job. Neil could be doing him a solid by talking him up on his way out the door. Make it seem like we really want to keep him, but maybe we hire someone else because they're a little better.

not really. maybe if they can't find the right fit, they'll see how Kaleb does here. Depends on the FA the blazers get, if they get good enough to get to the playoffs, they need a bigger name coach with more experience. Kaleb might just get demoted back to being an assistant, but keeping him in good favor.

Quick thought:

Olshey is used to dealing with an enigmatic owner, so that's a plus.

Core of 7 or 8 players then look to add players that will be here for 2 or 3 years at least.

If I was betting, I'd put my money on Canales being the coach starting next season.

The Blazers let him give a speech at the MAC a few days ago as a representative of the team. A buddy of mine was there and he knows Kaleb fairly well. Said Kaleb was so enthusiastic about the Blazers that you could feel his excitement.

Kaleb is moldable. He's young and inexperienced but he works hard and as long as you get some good assistants, I think that's really the key. I mean the Heat have Erik Spolestra for fucks sake. Its not the end of the world if Kaleb is coaching. May not have the pedigree, but all that can be learned or helped out with assistants.

I'm sure even if we hire someone else, Kaleb would remain on as an assistant.

Thinks highly of Jay Jenson and Bobby. Said we've had "bad luck"

I'm not a Spoelstra fan

Which is fine

His main strength right now is working day-to-day with young players, not leading a team to a championship

Talks about using same training staff, but learning and using "new tools". Travel yoga instructor and LMT

Says LA and Nic are what CP3 and Griffin are to the Clips. Cornerstones!

LAs agent is one of his closet friends.

Mentioned Coach Grg AGAIN! Plan on him being an assistant with us next season.

His decision wasn't about the money. "A wash"

Do you honestly feel that Nic is on the same level as Blake Griffin and/or CP3? Those guys are cornerstones, not Nic Batum.

Sounds like he is great with the press!
