If Pritchard thought so highly of Sergio then getting 2 pointguards this offseason (one not even fully recovered from a devastating injury) would be necessary.

I don't think Pritchard thinks terribly highly of Rodriguez. But his trade value is probably at a low, so there's not much point giving him away for nothing. He's an after-thought, but with good play, he can gain more of a role and start to prove himself. I think he'll get this season to show if he has any value left to Portland.

I'll probably do both here and BBF. Depending on how things go at BBF, I may eventually discontinue there. While I've only been here a little over a week, I find this a much nicer place than BBF.

i wonder what the contract is? you would think kp would not want to affect his 09 cap plan in any way.

what is his current condition? is he able to play at all? scrimmage?

is kp TRYING to get a video game all star team?

I don't think Livingston can be penciled into any depth charts, this year or next. This is more like a player stashed overseas. Definitely won't help us this year, might never. You just hold the rights and hope.

I would actually compare it to the Travis Outlaw pick. He's got all the tools to be a really great player, but there's something so drastically absent from his game that it could take 2-3 years before you even know if it's going to ever happen.

In Outlaw's case, it was the absence of any basketball knowledge, in Livingston it's the absence of health.

This is the kind of long-term move San Antonio might do if they had access to a big pile of money. And I like it.

I agree but I cant even begin to think where there would even be 5 game minutes for Sergio to prove himself. The way I see it, Blake starts, Bayless comes in with the 2nd unit and then Roy slides over to point to end the game with Rudy at the 2. Can you think of any minutes that Sergio might get minus garbage minutes?

Sounds logical. But taht would mean he would get at least 4 mil and maybe 6 mil.

I say give him a 3 yr deal at 3 mil per year with a two year team option. That means he gets at least 3 and maybe 9 mil. 3 mil a year is a lot at this stage, but PA paid 3 mil for the draft rights of Joe Freeland . . . I don't think 3 mil means that much to him.

Could be depends on what other teams offered Livingston. I would think at most we offer 2 million 1st year 2.5 2nd year and 3 million 3rd year team option but you never know.

Nice. If KP did that, I'm excited. The man has not let me down yet. I don't see how we could 'lose' by signing him; and the potential payoff could be sweet.

He seemed quite high on Sergio when he was coming in. However, all that potential with his ability to see the court, seems not to have materialized. He does have good court vision but with so-so shooting, poor defense, and occasional bad decision making, it appears the bad outweighs the potential good.

It is not as though Sergio was a high pick so it was a relatively low risk, potentially high reward exercise (like the Livingston signing).

I do agree that with the right offense and coach (say a D'Antonio (sp?)) type offense, he could blossom but his perceived upside is considerably lower now than last year at this time.

You start with practice and garbage time and impress the coach that you know what you're doing and playing the right way. Then you might start getting 5-10 minutes of meaningful game time. Soon, you're leading the team like Jason Kidd in his prime and are the 12-year starter at point guard for a 6-time champion.

Or maybe he just gets buried and tossed into some deadline deal. It could go either way.

Sergio better hope and pray that the starters and second unit make a regular habit of creating 15-20 point blowouts so he can get some burn late in fourth quarters, otherwise I see him maybe getting 5-8 minutes a night (with more than a couple DNPs on his stat line).

I think it's almost guaranteed that Sergio is a trade deadline piece ... to where and for what? I have no idea, but unless he completely transformed his game over the summer learning to actually shoot and/or play defense his days are numbered in a Blazers uniform.

Considering Sergio didnt get 5 minutes of meaningful time when we had turnover machine Jack running our 2nd team last year, i cant see there being minutes there for him this year (especially when we all know that Roy and Rudy will play together thus Roy absorbing some of those point guard minutes).

Oooh. What a let down. Way to burst the bubble, hoopsworld. No big deal, in my mind. It may have been nice to have Livingston's rights, but from all accounts it sounded like he would never be able to play at a high level again. Any reports that say otherwise or are we just hoping that he'll be productive?

I'm gonna laugh if the the Trail Blazers announce they ARE NOT signing Livingston today.

Very possible. It's also likely that KP decided, based on the players we have, Shaun simply isn't needed. Also possible: Another deal fell through that was a precursor to signing him.

As I said, my guess is that it was due to the contract Livingston and his agent wanted.
If we did pass due to his medical records/knee, I doubt KP could publicly say that because it would hamper Livingston's chances of signing on with another team.

Yeah, and wasn't the physical exam and records check several days ago? The certainly had time to review all the info that's out there. I'm betting this was a contract issue.

I think it has more to do with roster space than contract issues. With Raef out, I think KP wants to keep Hill around as a practice player. That means that in order to sign Livingston, the Blazers would have had to waive LaFrentz, thereby losing any ability to trade him and his expiring contract prior to the deadline. Given the uncertainty of Livingston's future in the league, that contract flexibility is worth more to the Blazers.

Tough call.

It's all just speculation on our part and spin on the part of KP & Co. What would the boards do without it?
