NEW YORK -- Choosing from the best of two gold-medal winners, the U.S. Olympic team might be better than both of them.

"This will be the most talented of the three teams that I've had the opportunity to coach," coach Mike Krzyzewski said Monday during a conference call.

The Americans announced the 20 players who will be candidates for the London Games, adding Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers and LaMarcus Aldridge of Portland to the 18 holdovers from either the 2008 Olympics or 2010 world championship who have said they wish to be considered again.

The 12-man roster and alternates for the Olympics will be chosen from the new player pool in June.

Returning from the team that won gold in Beijing are: Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Chris Paul and Deron Williams. Back from the reigning world champions are: Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, Tyson Chandler, Eric Gordon, Rudy Gay, Kevin Love, Lamar Odom, Chauncey Billups, Russell Westbrook and Andre Iguodala.

I'm guessing at this point that, barring injury, these guys are locks.

Bryant
James
Wade
Anthony
Howard
Paul
Williams
Durant
Rose
Griffin

That team lacks shooting, rebounding, and a 3rd PG.

Westbrook seems likely, leaving Love, LMA, and Bosh to fight it out for the final spot.

JMO, though.

I think LMA would be a great player in international style of play, but I am guessing Love gets the nod over LMA (just like in the ASG last year). His best chance might be getting in over Westbrook or Gordon or if Kobe decides not to play due to his wrist.

I also forgot about Rose being in my 10 locks. Westbrook is going to have to outplay one of Paul, Williams, and Rose to make the team.

Opens up another spot, I suppose.

Last time, Coach K liked Iguodala and started Odom, so I elevated them.

I really don't see Griffin making it. His lack of defense and lack of a post game will make him even more reliant on his athleticism and his jump shot. If he his jump shot isn't falling when they do the tryouts i'm gonna assume he doesn't make it.
