He's about to be 30 and hasn't shot 50% since 2011. In fact, he has yet to shoot 50% in the playoffs and currently shooting 34% against the defensive juggernaut Zach Randolph.

Do you want to give him a contract that eats up a lot of the cap? Factor in Dame's super-max he'll get and the roster now is about as good as it'll get.

He had two dominant games last year in the playoffs and slowly fizzled - we were absolutely routed by the Spurs. It took a miracle shot by Lillard to keep that Houston series from going into a game-seven.

Super-max him and stay in purgatory.

FUCK. NO. It will kill any chance we have at competing for a title for as long as his contract is on our books.

Paying him like 30mm at 35 years old is kinda crappy, but its the cost of doing business.

Even if he plays for the vet minimum?

Sure! I'd even go up to about $10-12M.
Except no, we still wouldn't be close to winning a championship unless he completely changes the way he plays.

:) I was just being a turd about saying it would kill chances at a title if his contract is in the books. (I know what you meant though)

Knew this was coming.
Funny thing is everyone was on Lillard for not putting up numbers and praising Aldridge in game 1 and 2. People were like. omg this is why Aldridge is going to leave.
Now that Lillard is playing better, they're on Aldridge.
People need to stop being so troll with threads.

Lillard isn't up for a cap-strangling contract ......yet.

How can anyone want to bring this guy back? His "best" shooting performance was 38% in Game 1 and it steadily slipped down to 27%. Absolutely awful.
On top of that he never looked engaged. He had a few token good defensive plays, but more often than not didn't provide any help defense. The guy is a joker - let him be someone else's joker. He is the new Max Contract Rashard Lewis.

He was playing injured, hell, him playing injured got them to the playoffs. He could have packed it in months ago and watched the team nosedive.

Fucking hell, some of you guys are just full of hate.

Great post!

Yeah, it was the injury that made him play like garbage for the entire series. When did he get hurt again? Has he been shooting 30% ever since he was first injured?
He flat out mailed it in. And he was never good enough to deserve a MAX contract to begin with.

If his injury was affecting his shot so much, then why not cut back on your shooting? That is no excuse. LA is a selfish player who wants his stats.

In the weeks after his injury, he actually got better because he started going inside more, but he reverted back to his dirk nowitski impersonation.

You don't want to be a middling team that's capped out for YEARS. That's NBA purgatory. You either want to have a legit title shot or be building. Right now the Blazers are neither.

It's strange to me that he put off surgery to help this team make a run, showing that he's engaged with the team and here for the long run.

But for some reason in this series he looked so uninterested and lacking intensity.

I don't get how those two pieces fit together here. Was he just exhausted from battling Zach?

That would only make sense if he only looked checked out at the ends of games. But he was a no-show from the get-go of each and ever game. And left the team so he could fly home on his own.
