Nope, it depends on what the meeting is about. If it's about Russian adoption then all is clear. If it's about partnering up on a plan for getting some fake news out there to help one candidate that the Russians prefer for some unknown reason, over the other candidate and information is exchanged or there is an attempt to exchange information then it will get someone other than just the Russians involved in some very hot water. Sounds like something worth investigating. Where's the FBI in all this. That would be their job to investigate.

Yeah, it's always healthy to have a relationship with a dictator that has shown the willingness to kill his own people and raid and conquer countries in Europe. Putin is a class act right Maris, lol.

Cup, imo it doesnt matter if it's a right winger having relations with Putin or a lefty having a great time with the Castro (commie) regime. Both sides are guilty as hell when it comes to stroking dictators.

There's quite a few differences. Start with Cuba doesn't have nukes and doesn't pose a military threat to anyone. Cuba doesn't have oil & gas that it can withhold strategically. Cuba is in our backyard. Cuba isn't interfering in our elections. Cuba's dictator was very old so we had a strategic opportunity to influence a new generation of leadership. We were the last, not the first, western nation to reach out to Cuba.

None of those things is true of Russia.

Except Cuba hasn't posed a threat for a long time, while Putin is trying to build Russia back up to the power they were as the USSR. Big difference and they don't care how they do it.

looked to me that we were financing terrorism in the most absurd way possible! Pallets of billions in the dead of night! Come on, any American politicians regardless of party thats does that is corrupt as Hugo Chaves was....
 
We have diplomatic relations with Viet Nam and China and we still have a cold war with Cuba? Never made sense to me at all

You can't ever be sure at first whether you are targeting imaginary witches or real witches, but when the suspected witches lie about how many broomsticks they own and whether they've been to the newt-eye-monger's shop, and their closest friends admit to being witches, you've got a pretty good idea you are on the right track.

China is huge and on the forefront of the world stage. Vietnam is not as bad as China. Cuba is a brutal place for many who don't toe their political line.

However, Cuba is very close with deep ties to the U.S.

Hence, I'm torn on the subject. To me, both sides have valid points.

I guess if I had to weight it, I'd go with normalizing relations with Cuba. They seem to be at least somewhat malleable.

I agree with you that it's always healthy to have a relationship with a dictator, rather than run and hide from him/her while he/she dictates willy-nilly. President Trump developed one with Kim and ended a war that began before I was born! That's a class act. Amazing.

Nobody has suggested anyone talked to Putin.

Just Russian citizens. Like you and me, only they were born in Russia.

I've done that many times myself, but sure, I'd talk to Putin if he dropped by. Could be the start of another peaceful alliance. :cheers:

They have been one of our strongest allies in most wars we've ever fought, so they're more of a pal than say France, or Canada.
