London Bomb Threats

This is insane, but the truth is that this is the kind of world we live now. Terrorism can strike at anywhere and anytime as long as they fundamentalists have the will to do so.

It really is sad something like this exists on our planet.

There have been no links to any radical Islamic groups yet, just throwing that out there.

I have a question I want to throw out there. What do you guys consider terrorism? Is it someone killing based on political/religious motives or is it just any average Joe that makes something go boom or causes mass casualty somehow? Personally I believe the first choice is what constitutes our governments view of what terrorism is.

My school ran a three country trip over to Europe. They went to France, then Spain, and right now they're in London. It's just a really scary thing to think about but some of my friends are over there right now.They're supposed to fly home tomorrow.

Airports are now classed as 'critical', meaning that a terrorist attack is expected imminently, after two or three people drove a car full of extra petrol into Glasgow Airport.

Two guys got out, and were on fire. They took them to hospital, where they discovered that one had a bomb on them. Why didn't they check that BEFORE taking them to hospital?

I'm kinda lucky, though, I live in a place where I can get to London easily, but so that I'm still 50 odd miles away from it. And the town is relatively small. Oh, and it was voted the second best place to live in Britain

Also, with the threats on London; they weren't so much threats as the British Police were incredibly lucky to discover them. An ambulance was called to a totally unrelated accident, and they saw a car filling with smoke, so they informed the police. When the police got they, they discovered it was filled with petrol, gas cannisters and nails, to cause extra devastation. To clarify, the British Police had no intelligence on the potential bombs, they were discovered by a stroke of luck.

And all in PM Brown's first two days in charge...

Terrorism is just another b.s. label the government wants to go to war with. I just find it astonishing people buy into this crap.

Being considered a terrorist really depends on what perspective you're looking at it from. I'm sure the people living in the Middle East who see US tanks and hum vees patrolling their areas feel they're being terrorized.

I'm really not sure if there's a viable solution. It seems both sides are forcing the answer to be something extreme in one direction or another.

Either both sides are going to achieve peace, or it's going to get to a point where the US and it's allies just start dropping bombs without any regard for innocent people, like they did against Japan.

Whoa! Apparentley one guy was arrested here where I live (Brisbane) in association to the Glasgow Airport terrorism attempt. Never would've thought that.

They're mostly doctors, too, which is worrying, especially when you think of the devastation they could cause with all the medical equipment/samples that are within theor reach.

99% of the Doctors down under are Asian/middle eastern and 99% of them are dreadful anyway.

It's no more dangerous than going to other major Western city. It was a bit worrying, but to be honest it wasn't as bad as any other major attacks.

I don't think terrorism is necessarily a label the government uses to go to war, as they've labeled American bombs terrorism before. I think the phrase that the American government is using to go to war is "radical Islamists." It'd be like some country going to war against "born again Christians" people who just have an unbelievable foundation in their faith that they will do what it takes to preserve their meaning. My comparison between the two may be a little extreme, though.

In the Middle East, I don't know if it is possible to acheive peace. We're talking about two different factions that have religious foundations totally separate from one another. Unless one side completely wants to trash their faith or unless one side is completely wiped out from society (things are headed that way) we probably won't see peace in our lifetime.

I'd say terrorism is a label the government likes to overuse. The War on Terrorism is a broad term. I've seen cases were the government accuses hackers as terrorists, spammers as terrorists, etc.

Every annoyance seems to fall under the category of "an act of terrorism."

I agree, I don't think the Middle East can achieve peace either, which is why I don't understand the US involvement there. Let the two factions fight their own wars and stay clear. They need to focus on improving their own country.

Funny thing about that is I tried to debate with myself over which term was the preferred one because I try not to pay much attention to dumb little details like that. Thanks for the correction.

No problem. I think it's more to be with it being grammatically correct as opposed to being PC or preference because Islam means submission to God and when you put extremist/radical and Islam together it makes no sense because God can not be an extremist.

I said that, but today our shopping centre was shut down due to a bomb scare :S

Either way I heard that they may have some sort of basis to link this with Al Qaeda since apparently a member of the group told someone in England before that "those who cure you will kill you" sometime ago. Maybe just a coincidence but definitely something to look into I suppose.

It came across as you were "generalising" and it still does come across in that way, but each to their own.
