Looking to buy a car

I have a Honda CBR600RR motorcycle, which will dust off just about any car on the road. I think I'm okay in the speed department :devilwink:

It's "need to go on long trips and take a lot of stuff" department, in tune with the "it's raining outside and I don't want to get soaked" department that I think NB is thinking of here.

oh and the "holy shit, it's 25 degrees and snowing I sure as fuck ain't taking my bike out there" department.

You should skip the hybrid unless it is for a moral choice. Don't think it pencils out for the increase cost of car vs. money you save on gas. Plus I think you have to replace a battery with a hybrid every so often.

If you go hybrid, Toyota does hybrid well and camry is a solid car. Something a little more sporty and fun is the Acura line with the Acura ILX going for about 25K. The Acura TL is a really nice car (much better than the camry, IMO) but you are jumping to to about 32K for that car.

These days the newer german cars can be as reliable as japanesse cars (even american cars can be dependable these days). It is the jump in cost for a new or couple yr old german car that makes it tough to go that way. Buying an older german car vs a new toyota doesn't sound like the most practical choice.

2005 Prius here. Original batteries, gets ~40MPG. At $5/gallon, a typical fill up is $30 or less.

Ugh, Toyota Camry...my Grandma's car is a 2011 Camry and I've driven it several times, and I can safely say it's the most bland, boring, average, everyday car there is. It's not fun to drive. It never stands out from the crowd. You see about 100 of them per trip. Buying a Camry is the equivalent of investing your savings into a Certificate: as safe as it gets for investments, but very little interest/reward (especially these days), no frills or excitement, you know exactly what you're getting. It's like going to the Tillamook Cheese Factory for ice cream and getting...Vanilla Bean. As a car guy, I would never even think of buying a Camry, but if you can relate to my analogies, then a Camry is the car for you.

you're saying this because you won't have to stop and fill up nearly as much, aren't you?

We ended up buying a Camry SE. We really like it. It gets good gas mileage, it's super comfortable, and it's a great commuter. If I want to have fun I'll ride my bike

Congratulations!

(I love getting a new car. I try to keep mine for about 8-10 years, so it doesn't happen very often for me.)

Thanks man! Yeah, we're hoping to keep it until it eventually dies (hopefully a long time from now).

Don't bash Nate Bishop. Jeff Van Gundy drove a Honda Civic

Not trying to bash you Nate...... but that IS a grandma's car. Expected more from you.

You just created a new thread possibility.

Cars and their reps!

Of course, it will probably just end up being a thread where we start bashing each others picks, or make snide comments about "liberals drive prius" and "conservatives drive...."...wait, what would conservatives drive?

And then somehow someone will think it necessary to post a picture of half naked women on cars and then the thread will change into a huge flame war between people.

SO thanks a lot HCP! You and your stupid ideas are ruining this place!

And he's a fucking tool, regardless of what he drives.

How many Camrys up on blocks on HCP's front lawn?

Let's Roll!

Let's Roll!

ok:

Hondas seem to be owned by:

Old people
Boring people
Kids who think that a spoiler and NOX makes their Honda's cool! Big mufflers!

BMW's are owned by guys who want to be cool and think their cars are really awesome.

Chevrolet Trucks are owned by either old white guys or dipshit teenager/young adults.
Same with Ford Trucks.

Sorry Dr. J......started thread, head over there!

A car is a conveyance. My advice is to pay cash for whatever you can get. No reason to pay interest on a depreciating asset.

That's my opinion too. Buying new, even with cash, is stupid. Buying it with cash is less stupid, but paying interest on a new car is silly.

Now, if you can't AFFORD to pay cash for a car (and i don't mean 35K for one), it's logical. But I'd rather buy a 2 year old car for 15K less than a brand new one, even if it doesn't have the "warranty"..since you're paying more for the car (in both total costs, and monthly costs) than most repair work would cost...

HAAA! So it turns out the Hyundai Corp just sent me a DMCA notice for some copyright infringement allegations -- instead of countering and fighting this claim, I decided to replace all of the content in question with more appropriate information. The contact page, used car page, and favicon have a hilarious message as well :devilwink: http://www.hyundaisalemoregon.com/ enjoy!
