Hey--you guys mind if I ask your opinions on a FFB trade that's completely unrelated to your league?

Go ahead! We may ridicule you if it's terrible like a @BonesJones trade offer :)
In a 10-team league (1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 flex), here's my current roster (starters in bold):
  • QB: Roethlisberger & Stafford
  • RB: Ajayi, Cook, Coleman, & Gore
  • WR: Jones, Thomas, Sanders, Diggs, & Matthews
  • TE: Kelce & Bennett
Offered to me (before last night's game) Cam Newton, Marshawn Lynch, and Colby Fleener in exchange for Matt Stafford, Emmanuel Sanders, and Travis Kelce.

I have my opinions, but before I share them, what do you think?

It's not terrible, but I would reject it at this point in the season. I like Kelce better than Fleener. If Luck comes back Fleener could be set for a really good year, but who knows with Luck right now. Lynch is another wild card, he could be a stud, but who knows how well he will play after a year off. Newton has higher potential and a chance to bounce back this year, so I do like him more than Stafford. I just think too many wild cards at play so early in the season to accept the trade. Just my thoughts.

Fleener is just filler--Bennett would obviously move into the starting TE spot in Kelce's absence.

I'm similarly unsure about Lynch; however I'm MUCH stronger at WR than at RB. I'd rather play my 5th WR at flex than my 3rd RB right now; Sanders for Lynch balances that.

At QB, Stafford is presently just my backup who I picked up very late for depth. If Newton falls flat again, I still have Roethlisberger, so I don't feel like there's any risk here.

I hear what you're saying about "wild cards", but with the relatively safe bets I'm retaining, what's the downside of adding a couple boom/bust players in Newton/Lynch?

You are definitely right. I was going to add that if you accepted the trade it wouldn't be bad at all. I'm just more conservative at the beginning of the year, but of course the beginning of the year is a time before everyone knows what to expect from a player and a great chance to steal a breakout player early on.

Is Jack Doyle or Hunter Henry on the free agent list for you?

Fleener plays for the Saints, not the Colts. Jack Doyle will be a stud TE for the Colts this season in my opinion.

Newton and Stafford will put up similar #'s.
Kelce will put up better #'s than Fleener
I dont think M.Lynch will stay healthy all year.
One thing to consider is that Thomas and Sanders will have the same bye week. I tend to not want two WR's from the same team.

Yep--another reason why I like it. "They" say that having multiple players on the same team leads to greater consistency (one will go up when the other goes down...), but I'm more in favor of diversity, I think. Except when it comes to my Vikings. I'm happy to have both Cook and Diggs.

So you don't buy into either Newton or Lynch being good bets this year? OK.

I would try to trade Ajayi in a few weeks. Dude's going to get hurt at some point. Try to trade him when his value is high.

No, I dont. I think Lynch will miss some games due to injuries. He's a bruiser, can his body handle that after being out for so long? And he's not known for being in that great of shape etc. He wasnt healthy much the last season with Seattle. Cam is coming off a big injury. Rumors are that the offense wont call for him to run as much, so that might limit his fantasy points. And one good hit and he could re-injure the shoulder.

I dont trust Trevor Siemian enough to consistently put up good enough #'s to make two WR's good fantasy options each week. I think it will be a roll of the dice which one of them puts up good #'s each week.

I'm in on Lynch. He looked speedy, healthy and determined in the preseason and the raiders oline might be the best he has ever had.

I have newton in one league, he scares me, but you have big ben to take some of that risk away. And newton has the potential to be the highest scoring player in fantasy. McCraffey catching passes for tds should help.

Kelce is a beast though. Loved seeing the shovel passes and coach trying to get him involved in the run game. He was double covered most the game, but if hill and hunt continue to play as they did, kelce should have more single coverage.

If jack doyle, tight end for the colts or hunter henry tight end for the charges are free agents (especially doyle) i think i would do it.

I agree on the Raiders o-line. That's the only thing giving me a little hope for Lynch.

Doyle! Fantasy sleeper!

Neither is available. Highest projected available TEs in my league are OJ Howard and Austin Hooper, and both are rated lower than Fleener.

Honestly though, since I have Martellus Bennett, TE isn't a concern for me, even after dealing Kelce.

You could roll with fleener and bennett at first. Then try to deal gore to a rb needy team for a te upgrade if it doesnt work out. Maybe by week 3 or 4.

If henry and doyle are both owned, people must have 2ish te's on their teams.
It's a coin flip. I'm really big on Kelce and Lynch.

So it comes down to if you're into Newton more than Big Ben.

...I don't think so, he had a couple TD passes called back on him tonight if I remember correctly. Obviously the o-line was not blocking very well late in the game -- probably tired and gassed out from 1st game of season -- I also believe that KC's defense is better than most "experts" think (especially at full strength) :dunno:

I think the Chiefs are really good and it was the Patriots Defense that had major problems last night.

So no one thought Brady looked pedestrian last night? He missed wide open passes to Cooks and other's that he would never have missed years prior.

I thought they looked bad.

Amendola looked ok, but of course he got hurt. Hogan didnt look too good. Gronk looked slower than frankenstein.

Cooks looked like the only electric offensive player on the field.

Defense was awful too obviously.

Of course Woodhead has a hamstring injury. LOL. I knew I should have benched him and started Shepard.

Oh Well.

My wait on QBs is paying off right now. 20 for Stafford, 18 for Wentz.
