Multiple sources are reporting that the Yankees and Cubs are putting the finishing touches on a trade that will send Yankee closer Aroldis Chapman to the Chicago Cubs. Stud 19 year old SS prospect Gleyber Torres looks like he will be coming to the Yankees in the deal.

Saw that Vic, from what I heard on Twitter there are other trades the Yankees are looking into, we shall see.

thanks Vic, didn't hear this yet

here's some data on Torres, Cubs Top Prospect, and MLB's 25th Top Prospect; plenty of literature on 'em...

So there goes Sir D.D.???

I wonder why Houston didn't bite for Chapman? They need a closer, after the bungaloo blown job of letting Velasquez (and 4 others) go for K. Giles; who the Ryan's expected to be a lights out Closer, rather a huge disappointment. I thought the Ryan's would of made more sensible trades as well; guess not. With Correa at SS, they've got leverage in Bregman. Tho' it should be the other way around. Bregman could play 3rd, 2nd too.

I'd rather of had Alex Bregman at SS, any day over either DD or Torres, but I'll refrain until its obvious whether Trashman can ever make a sensible trade worth its while...

I hope it's the first shoe dropping in a series of other moves that should take place. Beltran is obvious sell high territory tight now and Miller is another obvious chip that should moved.

The known factor = how bad do these teams want a legit closer and how much are they willing to pay?

btw- Torres wasn't in this year's Future's All Star Game. Bregman was tho', and tore the hide off the ball, until Moncada woke up...

Due to his rental status he needed to be first out if this deal goes down. Saw an ESPN article stating Chapman felt at home with the Yankees and if traded maybe come back as a FA. Tought the Nats and old buddy Dusty Baker might be reunited, guess they didn't offer enough.

I am glad to see Warren come back, appreciated his Yankee Contributions. Don't know what happened up in Chicago, don't really care, just hope he can get back on track.

The Yankees made a very nice trade. You never know with prospects but you have a better chance if you can start stockpiling some.

Cubs supposed to include a fourth player and imo, he could be, maybe, a player which can really sweeten the pot.
The 19 yr old SS is highly regarded, Warren could very well have become just another "so so" mid reliever and this McKinney kid outfielder hasn't exactly lit the world on fire in the mid minors....still very young and could blossom but as of now Yanks have a couple of other outfielders ahead of him in Ben Gamel and Jake Cave.

I guess the "star" of the trade is Torres but I hope there's also a young SP being included from the Cubs. As of now, it looks like the Yanks "only" received a top 19 yr old SS prospect while they already have DiDi, a pedestrian looking outfielder, and a mid reliever who became a gas can with the Cubs.....

Who's the fourth guy?

Rashad Crawford, don't know what position he plays.

Yep, found him.
Good size, primary CF, SB threat, thus far---> hasn't shown much as a hitter.
I'll put on MY GM hat for Cashman..and I'll admit I don't have all the reports and haven't sat down with the scouts...and this kid SS Torres could develop into the prototypical athletic SS who hits for power and very good batting average.....but could Cashman possibly flip him in a package for something else?

Gregorius is 26 yrs old and and doing "pretty darn good"......they have Castro at 2nd base......Let's do the math.

Not thrilled over this trade...gaddamit!
Yanks just gave one of top NL contenders one of the VERY BEST closers.
Let's do some revised "math". Gaddamit

FINALLY Cashman pulls his head out of his ass & does something productive. But you have to wonder what will happen with DiDi now?

Be great to see good moves made but one thing that must happen is that a cadre of Brass and Field Leaders show the group that this is the New York Yankees and any standard short of excellence will not be tolerated. Jeter was the last of the Field Leaders out, time to start a new group. Sorry A-rodham, you're out the door.

Michael the Yankees just need to grow a pair & just release guys like, A-Roid, Hicks & Teixeira, they're just taking up roster space that could be better used.

I think surprisingly good trade for the yankees and cashman. They get an athletic shortstop that if past shortstops are any indication will probably be able to play ss,2b,3b and of down the line. The Mckinney kid is the cubs 5th prospect and in double A so who knows what you get from him, warren I always liked and he was a better starter than reliever for us where he could end up again if we trade eovaldi, pineda and/or nova. The 4th kid is just a throw in as far as I can see but who the hell knows when a kid might blossom. Now trade Beltran to cleveland for one of their young pitchers, miller to washington who may be in a panic over the cubs getting chapman for their young pitcher they just brought up who is 22 and throw in mid to upper 90's that they have no room for with their 5 starters already signed to multi year deals and something else or bidding war with wash and texas who is also loaded with prospects for miller. Move gardner, mccann, eovaldi, pineda and nova for whatever young pitching,3rd base or of prospects you can get and release tex, a-roid and headley and bring up and go with young players. We are mediocre now but could be good again in a year or 2 with the right prospects supplemented by a free agent or 2 down the line. As a yankee fan since 1961 I'd like to go with the young players like we did in mid 90's and try to build something that will be good and last a long time.

...IMO, this was a very one sided trade. The Yanx added much needed young talent for the future while essentially giving up nothing.

As most of you know the Yankees have no 3rd baseman prospect in their entire farm system........
talent wise. It is possible to try this Torres kid at 3rd base. He's 19 with a very good arm.
We shall see. Getting two young OFs with potential may help in 2 to 3 years down the road.
Getting Adam Warren is a red flag that Cashman may trade a starter this year. It is all
conditional as who will have the most needs come trade deadline. Yankees can accommodate
and still accumulate talent for their future. Looking good to me.

Would love to see Yankees obtain a SP prospect when they continue to trade players.

While those two outfielders from the Cubs are very young and could of course blossom, the Yanks have outfielders at AAA:
Tyler Austin 24 yrs old, RF-LF, 2nd on team with 11 HRs with 153 ABS,. 320 BA, 1.070 OPS.
Ben Gamel 24, LF, tied for 2nd SB 16, .300 BA, .773 OPS
Jake Cave 23, CF-LF-RF, .285 BA, .801 OPS
They just activated Mason Williams CF, and he's done well in very few ABS.
And they have Dustin Fowler CF, 21, at AA

Yanks have good depth and young outfielders performing at AAA and Fowler at AA.
They should've squeezed a SP prospect from the Cubs instead of one or both of those outfielders in exchange for that HUGE piece to fit into the Cubs' WS plans.
Chapman may be a "rental".....but he could very well be the piece to finally put the Cubs over the top...and that's a BIG ticket. Ask the Cubs how high a price they would pay to shut down teams in the 9th or 8th and 9th innings of post season games.

George used to do those things to help put the team over the top....you only get so many chances....and the Cubs know it.
I think the Yanks should've gotten a bit more "obvious" talent.

Those two outfielders from the Cubbies SO FAR have been kinda nondescript.

And so -imo- this Torres kid BETTER be a "can't miss" type stud.

And as of now, he has been at best a mediocre reliever.
Has a 5.91 ERA and 1.42 WHIP, pitched 35 innings, given up less hits than IP allowing 7 HRs.....but, this is probably a result of him walking 19 batters (23 including INT walks) in 35 innings! Yikes.
There's the problem.
Maybe, he'll get his legs under him back with the Yanks. Possible SP? And they called up Severino for the pen. Yanks could be up to something else or maybe they're just going to try and retool the pen for the rest of this season.

We'll see how they play it.

I also heard that Gardner has been thrown out there also.

Do it and call up Gamel or Austin or Cave and just go with it....those kids have done well and deserve a good look for the next few weeks or couple of months depending how they handle it....if one falters, call up another one.
I believe Gardner has run his course.
Nice guy, proud Yankee....but youth must be served and Gardy has been a .258-ish hitter WITHOUT good power for the past 2+ seasons. Enough.

Put him in a package or whatever and try and pry a young 3b or some kind of decent SP prospect from a team.
Whatever, open up that spot for one of those AAA outfielders and let's begin to find some things out about them. It's the right course, imo.

...I read somewhere that Gardner would be a good fit for Cleveland...and the Indians have plenty of pitching, so maybe they'd be willing to trade a starter.

...who knows?...but if the Yanx are going to be sellers they need to do it on a large scale...Gardner, Beltran, Miller, et al, should all be on the block.

Here's one report I found on the Chapman trade, and not to my surprise it wasn't gushing with glowing reviews.
Doubtful people were beating down the Cubs' door to acquire Warren and the two "young" outfielders appear to be not much more than warm young bodies who have 4th outfielders (at best) written all over them......meanwhile Yanks DO currently have no less then three of their own YOUNG AAA outfielders doing well without including Judge.

Basically, unless Warren becomes an effective pitcher for the Yankss, its basically Chapman for a 19 year old "top" SS prospect.....in "A" ball.

And with the way DiDi has been playing & Mateo waiting in the wings I don't see how we really needed another SS. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy that the moves were made but I'd have preferred a starting pitcher. or a future 3rd baseman.

After tonight's devastating loss in Cleveland, do you think Nationals' brass is rethinking their
need for a major closer? They refused to part with their top 3 prospects. Maybe they need to
obtain that closer because that Papelbon character is not doing the job!

And it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
