Larsson offensively is a bust. However, defensively he's pretty good. The rest of the Devils defense f'n blows. No to little talent. I would think maybe a player like Boucher and a prospect with Larsson who is right handed. Hall to me is overrated. He's not very coachable. Has little to no desire to play defense. I actually think that might be a good deal for the Oilers. Devils defenseman in the minors are atrocious and yet they drafted 1 defenseman in the draft. I think I just read that they did deal Hall

Did Shero turn into Sather?he just won that deal by a good margin. Wheres Gorton golfing in Vermont?

Not a Hall fan. I've always thought he was overrated. That team sucked with him. He's also an asshole from what I hear off the ice and in the lockerroom.

great trade for the devils (as a devils fan obviously)

larrson still has room to grow and he really hasn't filled out his frame weight/mass wise. you have to give to get its a fair trade but you can't put a price on offense. cory should hopefully equal out any turnovers that may happen without larrson there thats why you go out and have a "great" goalie. it gives you the ability to lax a bit on defense and get some offensive power.

plus i think d men are easier to find then a pure goal scorer. was halls numbers that great? they are good not great i admit but change of scenery and still coming into his prime.

Actually, top 4 d men are not easier to find than goal scorers who don't play any defense like Hall. Hall is a one dimensional forward. If he was that great, Edmonton wouldn't have traded him. Not that Larsson is some stud. Now, the Devils have nothing on defense, nothing in the minors on defense and they drafted nothing for defenseman in this draft. Defense wins championships.

It was because who was there for the 4th overall pick which why Edmonton traded this guy. I'm laughing by the way at people here stating they wouldn't trade RNH and the 4th for McDonagh. You're right. They probably would have traded the 4th and Hall for McDonagh. LOL

The title of the thread even assumed it was Larsson plus for hall. Can't win if you can't score. 30th in goals no more.

But they didnt..they got a defenseman who is 3 years younger and save 533k in cap space..we shall see

Wow Cup resurfaced, hadn't seen him since he parachuted in to troll after the Devils had that flukey playoff series win vs the Rangers a few years ago

I don't mind it either but he was never here when they sukkkkked after that series

I personally thought the Devils offense was on the way up with some of the guys they added. Plus, they just drafted a ton of forwards and they have a couple of talented forwards coming up. What they needed is defense. Personally, I'd trade Schneider for a couple of real good, young, close to NHL ready defenseman prospects. They have a goalie in the minors Blackwood who is pretty good. Schneider is 30. By the time the team is any good, he'll be on the decline like Hank. In fact, I'd see if Dallas would trade Honka for Schneider. I think they would. You might have to take a crap contract back.

What do you mean I posted on here three weeks ago lol. So I didn't just show up.

What they needed is defense? They were 30th in goals scored there is literally no worse offense then the Devils and you think they need defense?

Cory is 30 but he doesn't have the miles on him a typical 30 year old starting goalie would have on him so that I'm fine with.

Someone mentioned that top 4 d men aren't easy to come by? I Def disagree with that but definitely Neither are top 5 in the nhl lw entering the prime of their careers.

I like Cory and think he's a top goalie in the nhl. Now he has to step up and play like it. Will he face more chances? Probably but that's why you pay him 6 million. Why do I need a great defense in front of a "elite" goalie? He Is your defense. I know your going to point out the rangers defense in front of lundqvist this year. But I said you don't need great defense if you have an elite goalie. You just need good competent defense.

His comment that he felt this trade was an indictment on him as a player should be very alarming to NJ. One, it's an incredible immature statement. Two, it suggest that he is an all about me player. No Hall you dumbass. It's not an indictment about you as a hockey player. It's about 3 things. One, the Oilers have sucked every year since drafting you so it's not like the team was improving. Two, they suck because they don't have any good defenseman and you got traded for a player they think will be a very good defenseman. Three, when you make 6 million a season and your team has a player they eventually will have to pay 10+ million a year and another young center probably 7+ million, they are going to have cap problems. Trading for Larsson, they save about 2 million on the cap from Hall. Plus, they can now dump Fayne if they wish. They also don't have to go out and sign a UFA defenseman which seem to be going for about 5+ million for a guy that is just average. So, the way I see it is this move eventually saves them about 10 million on the cap. Exactly what they will need to sign McDavid.

Kid is a moron.

no alarms ringing here i'm glad he thinks this trade is about him. i just want him to score goals all the way. nj isn't edmonton so whatever "attitude" he might have is going to go away and whatever defensive issues he might have (which i dont care if he does have any) i just want him to score goals! those will be corrected anyway. getting away from a Canadian media frenzy will do wonders for him.

It’s not one player. It’s the collection of players that make up the sagging work ethic and lack of culture. But if you had to put a face on it, or a name to it, that name would be Taylor Hall.

Taylor Hall, at least from a culture standpoint, in the room not on the ice, hasn’t been what they hoped he would be.

I think it speaks from a willingness to adapt. I’m choosing my words carefully in saying that. I’m not in the room, so we gather information from the sources that we have, and my sense is that Taylor Hall has a pretty specific vision on how he sees he needs to play and maybe how he thinks the team should play, and he really isn’t open to change, and that’s a problem.

"But they respectfully disagree with the how the majority of fans in Edmonton viewed and treated Justin Schultz during his last few weeks as an Oiler.

They don’t think he’s a useless player and they definitely don’t think he should have been booed in his own building.

“I hate when our fans do that, to be honest,” said Hall, as the Oilers returned to work the day after Schultz and Ted Purcell were traded to Pittsburgh and Florida respectively.

“You understand that they pay a lot of money to come to the games and they have a right to cheer or boo whoever they want, but I certainly have personal feelings towards Justin as a guy and you don’t want to see a teammate go through that.”"

This guy is soft. He sure as heck would never make it in NY. Wake up dude. When you play crap hockey, you get booed. Whining about your fans doing it is just another example of why you got dealt and why the Oilers suck every year.

Wonder if the Rangers will look at Schultz to help with losing Yandles offense. He's someone i wanted a few years ago.

Schultz fucking blows. I'm starting to be all in as far as making Gordie Clark our GM.

Yea Shultz sucks

Barring any trades the defense is set with Holden/Dmac as the 7th guy and Graves as the call-up
