The latest word is that the NBA contract negotiations just imploded.

Half a season would be a miracle.

taco time is nicer imo, shoot for the stars

HCP is gonna try his hand at stripping. The operative word being hand.

This is not a surprise. The players will end up caving sooner rather than later

What a day. Woke up got the kids off to school. Had a nice morning with my wife, we were both in great moods because of how these talks have been going. Ran some errands, and on my way home started reading and hearing what had gone down today at the meetings. Instant kick in the stomach! Came home and told her the news and she actually started crying. I give up on following the up to the minute reports...... the tweets.....all that shit! This is actually affecting the lives of my wife and kids.... the only things in this world that matter to me.

Stern: "We agreed to be in touch."

Stern: "We did not have a great day."

Stern: "We reiterated to the players that we needa system that is economically feasible .."

NEW YORK -- NBA owners and players met again Tuesday with their full bargaining committees, but the initial reactions after a more than five-hour meeting were not positive. No further meetings are immediately planned.

"Just finished a long day of negotiations. Unfortunately we are No Where Near a deal! It's def disappointing!" union rep Roger Mason Jr. of the New York Knicks tweeted immediately afterward.

National Basketbal Players Association head Billy Hunter said the union was willing to move off its stance, but that the league was not willing to negotiate. He also sounded an ominous note about starting the season on time.

"Because of the calendar, we can't come out of this thinking that training camps and the season will start on time," he said.

"It's discouraging and it's unfortunate," said Los Angeles Lakers guard Derek Fisher, "but that's the reality of where we are right now."

Did you ever talk to Mt Hood CC about teaching a class in broadcasting? You'd be really good at it.

How are your union negotiations going? Any progress there?

That is something I have never thought of actually.

Seeing me at the Comcast Service Center should have made your day!

That was cool seeing you Beer! That was before the bad news though. In case anybody was wondering, I was paying my bill and BeerBitch was complaining there isn't enough porn on his cable box and internet!

I must have been stoned that day!
I remember it: I must not have been stoned enough. IIRC, you deflected some props and the suggestion you should get a gig at the college by praising your instructor.

I sincerely hope everything works out for you and your family, and I seriously believe it will. HCP will not denied! LOL

1950 called and wanted you to know you dont have to go to the service center to pay your bill! You can pay over the phone or online... its amazing!

If you want your futon back, I can do that for you. I wouldn't be happy about it, but a brutha's gotta do what a brutha's gotta do.

Fortunately, I had the entire cover cleaned prior to bringing it into my home.

John, I truly am sorry for you and your family. Hopefully they get this thing sorted sooner rather than later for your sake.

Hey, thanks man! I didn't post that shit for people to feel sorry for me or anything, I was just kinda' venting! It isn't just me this is taking a toll on. I know some guys who are ushers at the games or security guards and this is huge for them as well. I think the little people like that are the ones that get forgotten about when this happens. It's weird cause I grew up a sports fan like all of you guys, I just happen to be lucky enough to get a job in the industry.

HCP at Taco Bell. That's rich.

Take a trot for the border!

Gimme one of those half-taco/half-burger thingies.

I hope he washes his hands more than once a week.

Until the owners start to fear that fans may walk away from the sport, they are under very little pressure to get a deal done. Meanwhile the players will really start to feel it when they don't get their bi-weekly checks starting this month (?).

Owners are holding all the cards right now and apparently are feeling very comfortable with a delayed season.

Not to give anyone false hope, but Chris Sheridan says "relax - they're posturing":

I am tweeting from afar on today’s lack of progress in NBA labor negotiations, and I am not the least bit surprised that everyone is emerging from the meeting in New York spewing doom and gloom.

That is what always happens when the owners’ and players’ full bargaining committees get together. It is a total dog-and-pony show, and anyone who expected the sides to emerge today with a sense of optimism was fooling themselves.

This dispute will get settled when there are a lot fewer people in the room. David Stern and Billy Hunter can reach a suitable middle ground by meeting by themselves for a couple hours, which was what happened back in 1999 when that lockout was settled.

Why would the owners want to budge now, just two days before the Board of Governors meets in Dallas? That meeting will serve to inform all the owners how strong their negotiating position is or isn’t, and they’ll emerge with a plan for moving toward a settlement now that they know what additional concessions the players are willing to make.

September 13 is not, and was never going to be, a movement day for the owners.

The time for them to improve their offer will come later this month, when the calendar dictates that it is time to move toward closure. In a labor negotiation, both sides do not make small incremental moves toward the center. They make a big leap when it comes time to make a big leap.

That time is not now. It is probably another two weeks away.

Today was a day for the owners to instill fear and put whatever the union offered them into their wallets. I’d say their mission was accomplished.

HCP could still stand out in front of Home Depot before he had to resort to that! In all seriousness though i hope this shit gets figured out soon so you can get paid fams!

Nah, I didn't think you were fishing for sympathy, I just know how rough the job market is out there and I hate to see another person headed for the unemployment line.

Sleep Country always needs someone to wear a chicken suit and hold their signs. You would rock that shit!

Seriously though, good strategy in not listening to anything about the negotiations. I would play it just like the players in not getting contractually obligated if there is a season, but planning as if there is not going to be any NBA games this year.
