Again, that example is more along the lines of the NBA buyout scenarios, where a team wants out from a bad contract. In the Euro (i.e. Rubio) scenario, if the player takes that approach, the team could simply cut him and have very little financial stake. Sure, they lose what they could have gotten in the buyout, but the gamble will pay off in their favor more often than not, given that few players want to make themselves look that bad on the court.The leverage the player has is that if the team refuses to make a deal on the buyout, he can stay and just dog it all year, fake injuries, be a cancer in the locker room and say bad things about the team to the press...
