Lopez Mastering More of the Offense

Brook Lopez didn’t get to run pick-and-rolls at Stanford. He isn’t a big part of the dribble drive offense either. But he is becoming more and more of an offensive threat for the Nets, mastering the pick-and-roll, forcing the Nets’ staff to adapt the offense to take advantage of his skills. Lawrence Frank understands his value, as does Kiki Vandeweghe who thinks the Nets can eventually run their offense through him.

I see that Lopez gave the Dave D. family a holiday ham this Xmas. Yi need to take lessons.

Dave D. other breaking news, Yi is no Dirk. Ironically, Harris played with Dirk, they couldn't exist together. I don't really know what that means. But I imagine if Yi became Dirk, Harris will have to leave the Nets as well.

Yi got 13 shots yesterday with 10 of them being in the first half. No can't blame harris here. Yi missed most of the shots.

Harris failing to play as well at Dallas had nothing to do with him not being able to co-exist with Dirk. It was more to do with him having to look over his shoulder every mistake he made and every shot he missed because Jason Terry was sitting on the Mavs bench and was ready to come in for Harris every time he sucked.

Harris is not a good passer, neither is Lopez. They definitely have talent, but I would say their court vision is lacking.

But following your lead, Harris does make some bone headed plays. If Frank were to bench him like they did at Dallas, Harris wouldn't be very productive. Harris doesn't play good fundamental basketball, it will hurt development down the line. I still say Dirk and Harris can not exist together. Harris is not a set up guy, he's still young though.

You jumping the gun a little, I know you love Yi, but I'm not blaming Harris for Yi's poor shooting. Sometimes he just flat out miss. However, Yi won't be getting much fast break points any time soon with Harris running them.

Do you blame Harris, the few times he did get a pass from harris on the fast break the rim blocked his shot. Harris don't need help on the fast break, usually he makes it and gets the foul. I have no problems with the way Harris runs the break...

Yi missed the dunk because he got caught under the backboard and was afraid to bring the ball down and dribble. Wade missed a wide open dunk last game, people didn't replay it over and over. Yi missing the dunks were pretty funny though. Stupid mistakes, kind of like Lopez getting blocked by wade twice in one game.

true, but lopez does so much more for having less nba experience and being younger. Lopez is tough Yi is not.

Hard to say who is tough comparing the two. They're totally different type of players. Can you imagine sending Lopez to double team Wade from half court like they ask of Yi? Can you tell him to shoot 3 pointers with only 6 weeks to prepare? Take players off the dribble for lay ups?

Yi has a lot of fire. He's not a thug, but you don't need to be a thug to play basketball.

If we're lucky, Lopez might develop into something like Duncan, Yi might develop into something like Dirk. That's a huge IF.

I disagree. They co-existed well enough for the Mavs to be in the NBA finals in 06 and then won 67 games the next season. Dirk won the MVP with Harris running the point. So while it may not be good for Harris and as good as he is, he was rightly the Mavs 3rd option. The Mavs winning % proves it as much.

That's very optimistic at best. You're talking about two league MVP's here with Duncan being perhaps the greatest player of his generation. If Lopez's career is even half as successful as Duncan's, then I am sure the Nets would be over the moon. I see Lopez developing into a very good player but Tim Duncan, I don't think so. As for Yi being Dirk, just give it up.

Dirk as a rookie must have took it to the basket strong and left it there. Cuz he doesn't do that anymore. I saw the Heats game, Yi was guarding Wade from half court. I didn't think he could do that.

Lopez was struggling got blocked by wade twice. But I still saw Lopez as positive... the potential in perspective of his experience.
