Lowry or Crittenton?

Unless the rookies, Boone or Harris take their game to another level, how is this team MUCH better than the 04/05Nets team led by RJ (Pre Kidds' return, and trade for Carter)?

You can build a team with players who are inexpensive, versitile, team-oriented, defensive-minded and fit different systems and styles so when the franchise is signed or drafted, nobody skips a beat. The Nets are kicking ass doing that right now.

Petey, that's just stupid. This team is better than last year's, never mind Nov. 2004. There was no one close to Carter or Harris' level on that team and every bench player was a joke compared his current Net counterpart.

I acknowledge they are better. My post asked how much better.

That was a very hard Nets' team to watch. Comparing this team to that unit, and the Nets teams in the past few years who have just sneaked into the playoffs as a 8th seed... doesn't give me much hope for this squad as a playoff team.

Well, that's a win, too! The Nets are better off high in the lottery than in the playoffs. I'm still going to root like hell for them to win every game, though.

I think they are going to be hard to watch for the first four weeks of the season. Then they will either lose interest or start to develop and mesh. Look how the sixers turned around their season last year! The Nets could replicate that. Or they could lose interest and stay flat the entire season.

crittenton...both aren't pure pgs but javaris has the athleticism and size to be a sg...

lowry has shown more and is a terrific on-ball defender and gets into passing lanes...

but defense can be taught but size cannot...

and at the current state of the nets, we need to take risks and not play safe...if we were the celtics then we can just take lowry and maintain status quo...

I don't know anything about Crittenden. Lowry I think is really short, plays tenacious defense, and has not much offensive game. I'd probably choose to keep the rights to Nenad. Neither Lowry or Crittenden would ever be anything more than a ten-minute-a-night backup, and I'm not sure how much of an upgrade either would be over Hodge.

Both Lowry and Crit are significantly better than Hodge and are much more than ten minute per game backups. Then Nets have very few players (2 to be precise) that are more talented than them in the backcourt.

Sorry Dumpy, but you are completely off base. Lowry is a better PG than Dooling and a defensive monster. Frank would love him and play him a lot. Crit can play the 1, 2 or 3 and is more talented than CDR, Anderson and Hayes.

No. The only right the Nets have is the right of first refusal. That isn't something that can be traded.

Lowry would have been the perfect backup PG for this team moving forward. Him and Dooling would make a formidable second string backcourt and Lowry would be the pure PG we need off the bench to replace what we thought we had in Williams since Harris is more of a shoot-first PG. Crittenton has more potential and is more of a risk who could potentially yield higher rewards, but with Harris already aboard we wouldnt really be in a position where gambling on potential would be the most beneficial thing to do when a sure thing like Lowry is the other possibility.
