Now that would make me thrilled. Then you get rid of Hagelin to shed salary as Lucic makes 6. Then sign Lucic long term. He would actually give this team balls. I can't believe how many moron Rangers fans don't want this deal that I've watch post on boards. They are on crack.

It also gives the team the option of moving Nash and keep Hagelin. If Detroit is indeed interested in Nash, I'm pretty sure Detroit will be one of the teams on his trade list, if you could get a pick, Mantha and Nyquist, the team is so much better. Use Moore in the third and fourth slots to help work the rookies in. One thing about Lucic, he scores in the playoffs. 26 goals, 61 points in 96 games. That's with all the toughness and net presence that he brings. To me, Lucic is a much more of a game changer than Yandle. You figure Kreider is an inconsistent power forward at times like Lucic. If you have both, odds are one of them will be going in that game.

I said this team needed more than minor fixes. If that deal is on the table, Sather should be talking to Lucic's agent about him signing long term. That is guy you absolutely lock up if you acquire him. He won't make 6 again. I'd be more than happy to go 5 y, 5.5 million on Lucic.

First off, you should switch to decaf immediately. Second, in the article it states it probably wouldn't happen 1. Because we have up so much to get handle and 2. Lucic is looking for a raise from his 6mill per year hit, I think he's a good player but doubt he comes here.

The reason Boston wants to move him is because he wants more. If he was going to sign for 5.5 Boston would have inked him already. Not to mention that having one of the slowest skaters in the league on the first line probably isn't ideal for AV's style of play. This was an Eklund style, click bait article.

I'd love that deal. I've always liked Lucic when many here hate him because he's "dirty", but it's an aspect i'd love to have on our team. The guy can beat you with his stick and his fists.

I don't believe he wants more. I think that is all b.s. created by the Bruins ownership in order to justify trading him because the fan base there sucks Lucic off. Lucic was a guy that our assistant GM had a lot to do with when he was in that role for Boston. So I do believe there is something to this story. The new GM of the Bruins wants to get faster up front and on defense. The Rangers IMO have too many speed players and not enough toughness and net presence. AV's style of play hasn't won jack as far as cups. So, he needs to re-think the way he is doing things.

I'm tired of hearing about speed with the Rangers. All that speed resulted in the team looking like a bunch of monkeys trying to screw a football offensively in the playoffs vs. the Craps, Pens and Tampa. This team is full of pansy forwards who don't drive the net, score in front of the net and screen the goalie in front of the net. It needs to change immediately. Almost all our forwards play from the perimeter, over pass the puck constantly and couldn't hit the side of a barn with most of their shots. Somehow, they had success offensively in the regular season. As soon as the playoffs came, back to normal. Offensive incompetence.

There is some truth to your last point, but I think it gets overstated a little bit.

You mention other boards...I hadn't been on HF in years but checked it out after vro posted a link to a thread there. Someone there had posted a goal chart of each team's goals in the playoffs. The Rangers actually scored more goals from right in front than both the Hawks and the Lightning. It was close, but the Rangers had more.

What wasnt close was the amount of goals scored from the perimeter and outer circles (excluding shots from the point). The rangers scored almost ZERO goals from the left circle area and barely any from the right. The Hawks and Lightning had dozens from there.

I think that shows this team is missing a guy with a release that other teams need to respect. Nobody on this team can beat a goalie from the outside with any sort of consistency. Yes a part of that is getting traffic in front to make it more difficult on a goalie, but who even has that release on this team? Hayes probably has the best but he's far too young to rely on to do it consistently. When you have a guy like that, the defense needs to step to him earlier, and all of a sudden there's more room on the ice to get to the net. It opens everything up. We lost that kind of player when Gaborik was traded, and he was never replaced.

That's why I think Yakupov should be a target. A guy who can score from almost anywhere with his wrist shot makes a big difference in opening up ice for everyone else. This is a team full of poor shooters. We have no Kane type wrister, no Stamkos or Johnson type wrister. Nobody the defense needs to step to and respect.

Haven't watched Yakupov much. I can't believe I'm saying this because I hate basketball but I'm actually fascinated to see what the Knicks do tonight. I wonder if Jackson is as smart as he thinks he is.

Here is the problem: 28 year old UFA forwards who do it all (score big goals, fight, hit, protect teammates and play good 2 way hockey) never take less when they finally become unrestricted

I love the thinking of acquiring him/signing him long term but why exactly would Lucic take LESS money after finally becoming a UFA?

It doesn't happen. Period.

Because he sucked last year and he was overpaid on this contract. He has downsides to his game. He takes dumb penalties. He isn't great defensively. That being said, he fits a huge need on this team.
