Honestly We all know that lundy has had a off year and people giving him the benfiit of the doubt, but he needs to be our best player no matter what, We have seen how torts system helped lundy more then people thought. He has struggled at certain times this season which has been unheard of past couple years, He needs to level up his game already. Lundy has not been good this series, at least not on the same level as previous playoff runs.

I have never seen lundy ever poke check. A breakaway, a wrap around, people crashing the net. Sometimes you have to dominck Hasek and steal a save especially in playoffs, that goal other night off the boards where the flyer shot it and it went off hanks glove, its a weak goal that lundy has saved hundreds of times.

I really hope that lundy is not getting exposed when he doesn't have a whole team collapsing 5 men every game blocking 25 shots a game. We saw for years how bordeur benifted from a Defensive system year after year that hide his weaknesses years after year. But the problem with that is he would make the amazing save in the playoffs (and i hate to say that).

I always feel he collapses sometimes too much, doesn't poke check and relies too much on positioning and sometimes you need to have a better feel for the game, I hope im wrong and hank steals the next couple games and im 100% wrong but something is not right with hank this season and i dont know what.

Lundqvist has also posted a 1.76 GAA and a .927 SV% through the first four games of the series, while allowing two goals or fewer in three of the four contests.

Sure he could do more, who couldn't, but those are pretty solid stats through 4 games.
 
If the boneheads insist on forgetting about Flyer forwards in front of the net he can only do so much himself. They've had issues with it all season. You can't send 3 guys to take one player.
 
yes his numbers are decent but he has let in some soft goals, IDK..... just doesn't feel like a ELITE goaltender at times.. maybe im in the minority here, he has also played very well against flyers in his career. Sometimes numbers can be misleading.... Im watching tuuka rask steal games for boston (ok not steal but played extremely well), he puts boston on his back...... were not going to beat philly if mason outplays hank,
 
I think lundqvist has been outstanding in this series so far, can't think of one goal he's let in that was stoppable. During a long season players are bound to lose focus here and there and not play their best, but you want them to in the playoffs, and so far lundqvist has been excellent. (a flyer fan!)
 
Hank's problems in the playoffs are the result of incompetent defensive play, forget 5, he's been left with no one in front of the goal. Stralman, Klein & Moore blow, they won't take the body and won't clear the crease. I would give Diaz the nod in place of one of them.
 
What goals were soft?

He didn't let in any soft goals in game 4.

In game 2, maybe he left a rebound he shouldn't have on the 3rd goal, so maybe I will give you a goal in game 2, but overall not sure he has really let in many soft goals.

I would actually go the other way. He has made some real nice saves, but has he made that highlight reel save he often makes? That would be my question/focus.

Hank is not the reason we are tied 2-2 as his numbers indicate, but maybe he hasn't had that vintage shut it all down Hank game. That is not easy against a Philly team with a lot of big guns upfront though.

All I know is today is what counts. We must win this game. If we don't I think we have big issues. Flyers would have won 3 of 4 and be 2-0 with Mason in goal, as they go home looking to close us out. You usually save the words must win for elmination games, but this one is darn close to one for us IMO.
 
I dont know if I would call it soft, but the first goal in game 4 is a save that a goalie of Hank's caliber needs to make. It was a lucky bounce, but he was over there and got a good piece of it. Just like in football, if you get your hands on the ball you need to catch it. Would have been a spectacular save, but you need a couple of those out of your spectacular goalie.

That said, when they only get one goal and it comes from Dominic Moore (no disrespect to him), the goalie is not the reason they lost.
 
Right, that is kind of my point. That certainly wasn't a soft goal, I would say when a puck bounces quickly off the boards to a wide open unchecked guy (where was the D) you cannot blame the goalie, but maybe one he could have made a great vintage Hank save on.

That is where I am going. He hasn't been bad. He has very good #'s. He has made some real good saves. But I am not sure if he has been the King to dominate a game and shut it down like we are used to seeing. That is where I would go on Hank before I say he has let in soft goals, which he hasn't. He hasn't had that vintage performance yet. Hopefully today is that day...we need it.

And you also nailed something else, we scored 1 goal in game 4...by Dom Moore early in the 1st. So we went essentially 90% of the game with nothing. That is not on Hank. We made it WAY too easy on Mason. He didn't see traffic all night really. We need to be better than that and get in his face. I expect that today.

That describes half our defense in a nutshell. A little surprised at klein cause he can actually handle himself but not the other 2.
 
I don't think Klein has been that bad. He is a 3rd pair dman. Stralman and Moore are also 3rd pair dmen. That is why I think a big focus this summer, along with adding a physical scoring winger, is a 2nd pair dman to pair with Staal. That will enable us to have everyone in their correct slot.

We have 3 big dmen, but we don't really have a legit 4th guy to pair with Staal. We have 3rd pair guys, and one pairs with Staal.

BTW...Staal has been our best dman in this series IMO.
 
Not for nothing but it's not like they're playing a scrimmage out there. The Flyers do know how to play hockey as well.
 
You wouldn't know that when you read some of the posts in here Mess. We should have won in 3 games and the Flyers are an AHL team...LOL.

2-2 and we are in a huge hole and cooked.
 
contrary to what some believe on here, i believe lundy has played well... the first goal the other nite irked me cause his peripheral vision should have picked up guy , yes alone, reid, and he should have stopped that goal.. he saw the shot was to back of boards, he should have moved to side of reid much quicker.. thats 1 goal i understand, but it was the equalizer!

My problem with Klein is he's always floating around the faceoff circle or behind the net. All his dumb ass needs to do is plant himself in front of the net and keep Flyers out of Hank's face, the guy is also a turnover machine when he's pressured with the forecheck. Stralman is mediocre at best but AV likes him despite his lack of physicality. Moore is the most disappointing because he came here last year with a chip on his shoulder and wasn't afraid to mix it up but now seems to think he's established himself and doesn't need to give the same effort. These three guys are the reason Philly's forecheck has been effective. I agree with you Chuck about Staal although it would be nice if he could get a shot in the general vicinity of the goal.

This series still comes down to the top 2 lines scoring.

Brodeur did benefit from rules and the clutch and grab but I give the guy credit for being as good as it gets technically. Marty rarely gave up a soft goal in his career because he was always in the proper position. Hank has improved this part of his game but for years Hank was prone to the soft goal as a result of being slow to hug the post or put the goal stick on the ice and close the 5 hole.
 
good points but i was mainly talking about these 2 goals. goal 1 in game 4 off the boards where he knew the shot was going wide it was obvious if your a goalie, should of moved faster. he did the puck hit his glove. a ELITE goalie makes that save it hits him.

i believe it was game 2 the second goal (not sure might of been third), where the flyer player blows past the rangers d and comes in on lundy from right to left and slides it past lundy far post across the ice. WHY DID YOU NOT POKE CHECK THAT. HANK never poke checks things like that. like ive seen tons of goalies poke check that stack the pads or poke check and dominck hasek style.

IDK maybe im being too critical but in my thoughts he needs to make saves that other goalies make if you want to be considered the best. Sitting back in the goal and trying to be in every correct position every time , theres going to be times where soft goals get past you, you have to have a GOALIE SENSE on certain things
