Mac vs. PC?

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting dunksworth:</div><div class="quote_post"> And as already mentioned by the comic strip, the anti-virus problem PC's have is due to the fact that there are more PC users than Mac. Hackers who create these viruses want to focus their attention on the OS that has the most users.... they wouldn't want to waste their time trying to screw over a lesser population. You'll see that if or when Mac becomes at least as popular as PCs. They'll probably run in to the exact same problems..</div>Nah, a lot of it has to do with how easy it is to create a virus/trojan/worm for PCs. All that focus on compatibility is great, but Microsoft has made it way too easy for these people to create these things. I could create a virus that will destroy your computer with the skills I learned in high school computer class.

Macs are better with software licensing and such. That's why you won't see many homemade programs or cracks on Macs. The whole popularity thing is just a cheap excuse. If people could be doing that **** on Macs so easily, then they would.

I agree that Microsoft does make things easy for hackers to create viruses and whatnot, but it's easy to figure out its flaws when more ppl are attacking it. And ms is still a powerful company, they're not gonna sit idly by while all this is happening.

No matter how good an OS may seem, there's still gonna be flaws. There's no such thing as a perfect OS. People are mistaken if they think the main reason PCs have a lot of viruses is b/c there's way too may holes and not b/c of its popularity.

Some people also have that exact misconception about Mozilla Firefox. People say it's safer than IE b/c it's less flawed, which is only partly true. The main reason it's safer is b/c more hackers prefer to spend their time messing up the most popular os, which is ie. Even Mozilla admits that.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting authentiq:</div><div class="quote_post">Word? I was planning on getting one too. Which one do you think is better black or white?</div>
That's a pretty dumb question. It's the quality of what's inside the computer that you should be aiming for, not the color. BTW, they both are the same just different color. I'd definetely go for the Pro as Mel is getting but I have a fear that my parents will most likely turn that offer down. I'm looking to get a white one. I'm just mad that they don't have larger screens for the basic MacBook's.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Ming637:</div><div class="quote_post">I have a Mac Mini just to see what the mac was like. It's pretty nice, since you don't have to deal with viruses. I can't figure out how to access .wmv video files, so I can only play videos compatible with quicktime.

Another bad thing is that you can't play any regular games you can play on PC now.</div>
WMV for Mac: http://www.flip4mac.com/wmv.htm

As for games, you can install Windows via Boot Camp and install PC Games.

Also, if you guys are planning on getting a MacBook Pro soon, hold off for another month -- faster chips from Intel just came out so there's a good chance the MBP's will get an update.

Wow. I forgot how much of aproud Mac owner I once was. I now hate all apple products.

Silly people reviving old topics. I will use a Mac for computer art, other than that I dont want to be on one.

Please don't bump old threads

Microsoft products really do suck but still prefer PCs to Macs. However i do hate quite a lot of Apple products and software as well, especially iTunes

Lol i haven't used a mac since my days in School lol.

I'm PC all the way!

What's wrong with bumping old threads?

There's almost always no need for it. Usually the information will be well out of date. Depending on the thread subject, its usually a better idea to start fresh. Especially when this thread was almost 4 years old before it was bumped.
I don't mind bumping old threads with important information or whatever, but in this circumstance Nate Dogg's post was unneeded

I think I read on the first page something about Apple making their own phone? Any one hear any information on this crazy idea?!?

I don't this goes along with Denny's vision for this site.

You'll find most other forums would have closed a 4 year old thread being bumped. I was merely informing members of my views. I am the moderator for this section, and i will moderate it as i see fit.

Maybe you should talk to Denny about what a mod is supposed to be. Ask him about "radical trust".

Yeah, I'm not seeing what the problem is here.

What's the point in having tens of thousands of old threads around if people can't resurrect them from time to time?

Sorry about that Denny. Its just that almost all the information in this thread is very out dated and i was just informing them that it probably would have been a better idea to start fresh. Apologies

It's ok, Denny loves outdated things. You should see his wardrobe.

Lol. xD

Anyways, I want the iMac 27-inch: 2.8GHz computer... Since that thing is beast and its the best thing I used to play with photoshop. No interruptions at all.

no one answered my question, whats so much better about the PC than the mac?

I'm computer-illiterate

PC gets you far superior hardware for the money. It's an open platform so you can buy all sorts of additional hardware for it, which is also a negative - it all doesn't always work together 100% correctly.

Mac is packaged really slick and the software is perhaps more polished and less error prone.

Yeah basically this. PC's can be done how you want it to be. Mac's are packaged and usually packaged very well for media rather than a PC.

What're the best PC laptops out there? I might plan on doing some early birthday shopping for myself

Ive heard Acer is good. I have one of their monitors and it has good quallity.

Agree'd with DPGB, Acer are one of the best laptop names on the market. Other solid manufacturers are ASUS, IBM, HP and Sony. But it all depends what your looking for in a laptop.

I have a Sager NP9280

Specs are outrageous. Runs windows, though.

Another one of these topics? I think they are both good. Macs generally tend to be better at work stuff like buisness and education etc... For simply an at home computer that is used more for things like gaming and entertainment, id say a windows (PC means personal computer which includes macs) would be better.
