Tom Penn pointed out that Lillard's biggest strength is the P&R -- "91st percentile" in shooting off the pick and driving; 74th percentile in passing out of the P&R. His PPP also ranks high at 1.083, good for 87th percentile.

To make this work (and work well) you have to have the right pieces in place. The Knicks makeup couldn't have been worse for D'Antoni -- Melo killed this system with his ball-stopping ISO ball. It really did make him look incompetent but you can't deny what he did with the Suns, a two-horse team that was a powerhouse in his tenure.

Outside Hibbert, and he's still a hypthetical at this point, this roster is made to run.

Hibbert is great for a faster paced offense. You need someone to block or alter shots to get the break going. The nice thing about Hibbert is that if the break is stopped, he is a good P&R center for a secondary break. It will be like watching real basketball

I've watched a few Pacers games, but I honestly can't remember this one little thing ... Does Hibbert set a good pick? I mean, for the love of god, can we get a big in here who will set a fucking pick?

now don't cringe and throw things Niko because I have some bad news for you...
He sets picks like LA sets picks.[video=youtube;cxnIGhWc5kU]

This.

I like how in the D'Antoni vid, in the very first example, Failton has three better options on the play but takes the tough shot himself instead of passing the ball. LOL I'm pretty confident Lillard will be better at the P&R and setting up his teammates, this season.

If we had Hibbert and if Lillard isn't a sieve, we could be a very good defensive team. Lillard and LMA with Batum as a shooter, and we could be an excellent P&R team offensively. If we actually get Hibbert (and keep Batum), I will be very optimistic about the season.

Speaking of not setting real picks, in the Suns vids, I didn't see a single actual pick on the P&R. Often the 'pick setter' wasn't within 3 feet of the 'pickee'.

I remember thinking he was good at pick and rolls, he's not the fastest big guy but he makes himself a huge target. I can't really remember specifically about the picks though.. Barely anyone sets good picks in the NBA it seems like. They either make very little contact or set moving screens.

Btw, not confirmed but rumor is the Blazers may have already interviewed D'Antoni for the head coaching job. #ripcity #blazers

Well, I guess if you're not going to be winning anything for awhile, you might as well be entertaining.

Fuck it, bottoms up!

well, a young fast breaking team would be easier on the eye than watching failton dribble the ball off his feet

Where did they hear this rumor? Is it the same rumor from the Canzano show, where this was suggested because Olshey was seen hopping a jet to Vegas and coming back a couple hours later?

Yeah, but just from a logical standpoint

Lillard's PnR numbers in college were phenomenal

D'Antoni is the master of the PnR system

It just makes fucking sense.

In Vegas this weekend:

*Paul Allen
*Neil Olshey
*Mike D'Antoni
*The agent for (both) D'Antoni and Olshey
*El Prez

coincidence?

I'd be somewhat surprised if it was D'Antoni. I feel like Shaw is the favorite.

However, Aldridge + Lillard pick N roll with off ball movement with Matthews, Batum spotting up for 3 or coming off screens? Gimme some of that.

Fez I disagree with you a lot, especially on draft things, but I am all over the "hire D'antoni" bandwagon!

After watching the first summer league game open up with a Lillard dish to Leonard on a picture perfect pick and roll play, I can't help but be enthusiastic.

D'Antoni would be a great fit here.

It's only summer league but Lillard is showing that he can do three things that are essential in D'Antoni's system:

*Keeps dribble alive in traffic
*Finds the open man in traffic
*Shoot

Why hasn't Mike been interviewed yet?

Maybe Mike has been contact and turned it down?

I think we would have heard something from his agent.

Last week LaGarie said there has been no contact yet.

I know I said basically, "fuck it, why not" above, but upon reflection I just don't love the idea of D'Antoni. Is he really a development coach? All of his success has come with mostly veteran laden teams and he loves short rotations. Is that really maximizing assets? Yes, Lillard might flourish, but how much of it would be real and not just stat inflation?
