Anton Gerashenko, an adviser to Ukraine’s Interior Minister, said on his Facebook page the plane was flying at an altitude of 10,000 meters (33,000 feet) when it was hit by a missile fired from a Buk launcher.

Insane!!!! Reminds me of when a passenger plane was shot down in the 80's.

Russia needs to get out of the 80s

No one is taking credit yet, I bet it was a Russian mistake or a frame job to try and ignite a conflict.

Russia is claiming that this was an attempt by Ukraine to kill Putin because he was suppose to fly in that area.

Uh huh.

Putin might be flying over, blast every commercial jet you see. Seems logical.

<crackle> Good evening, this is your captain speaking, welcome aboard Malaysia Airlines flight 17. Today we will be cruising at 10,000 metres. Our flight path will take us over Crimea, Gaza, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, with a quick swoop over the Andes Mountains followed by a lingering, low circle off the West coast of Australia. If any passengers would prefer to jump right the fuck out of this plane onto the tarmac I wouldn't blame you.

The black box is already in Moscow. I imagine that will show that the USA blew up the plane.

Ok looks like it was the Russian aligned rebels being trigger happy trying to shoot down cargo jets. They have recently shot down cargo jets in the region and the evidence is mounting against them to the point of it being obviously more than a coincidence...... so why the fuck were civilian jets being routed over this unstable conflict region in the first place?

Civilian jets flew over Iraq and Afghanistan when we were at war there. There are very few missile systems that can reach airliners. For Russia to give such an advanced system to rebels is reprehensible.

Im not a weapons expert and Im shocked that civilian plans were flying over Afghanistan and Iraq while were were there. Facts still coming out on this situation but it seems like people knew they had these weapons, the rebels were tweeting pictures of them, they were also actively downing cargo jets with them. Also from what I gather the missle system didnt come from Russia, it came from a Ukraine base that was seized by the rebels.

It's like you're trying to blame the rape victim because her clothes were too sexy. This is 100% Russia's fault. Even if this was the Buk that was seized from Ukraine base it would still take highly trained personnel to operate it. That personnel came from Russia.

Nobody cares, it was full of non whites gays and women. Some of whom were all three.

Seriously though that is some scary shit.

Just trying to question the system not the victims. It just seems that if there was a known danger then civilian aircraft should have been no where near the area. Russia doesn't get a pass from me either but we are still figuring out details and working on assigning blame. However they got the BUK's Russia knew they had them, we knew they had them, and everyone knew the rebels are not the most reliable fighting force. Seems like it was a group of errors that created the situation and a lot of people should have known better.

Just read through this thread. I'm guessing this is the post that inspired that one tweet about the OT board.

Some people take things too seriously.

Pro-Russian Rebels announce they definitely shot down two Ukraine fighter jets. So they're saying they have the means, and are actively shooting down planes. Not very bright if they want to say "No, we can't shoot down the Malaysian flight, we don't have the motive or capabilities."

The missile supposedly came from the area controlled by the Ukrainian rebels, but audio seems to show a well-known (to the Ukrainians) Russian officer communicating with Moscow after the incident.

It would make sense that Russia sent "advisors" with advanced weaponry into the battle and they fucked up.

Russian needs to be embargoed, and right quick. The embargo ends when they stop their support of Ukrainian rebels and withdraw from Crimea.

The UN should send in peacekeepers or NATO should send soldiers to train the Ukrainian army.

Ukraine should offer free passage for any Ukrainian citizen to Russia if they wish to defect. After all, many are ethnic Russians who moved in the days of the Soviet Union.

We should drop the silly law that we can't export oil. Make plans to deliver to Europe any oil or gas that Russia would choose to threaten them with.

Finally, we should put back our missiles in Poland and the Czech Republic as a sign that we're done with Putin fucking around. Strength is the only thing his kind understands.

Aw, Obama ain't going to do this! His "preference" is to negotiate.
