Had this 18 year old girl been a boy, she might have gotten probation. As it was, she got a "deal", but no high school diploma and she has to register as a sex offender. Great future for an 18 year old, expelled from school, registered sex offender.

From the story, it sounds like one girl was 18 and the other 14. As an accountant, I can count that that's more than the 3 years rule/law you mentioned. So she clearly is in violation of the law.

No, that's one extreme, the other extreme is to say if you have sex with someone who is 17 years 364 days old, it's rape, but the next day, it's consensual sex. You can't say that is rational.

Many people seem to have lost the ability to think rationally on this topic.

If a "blue lagoon" scenario happened, do you really think the two teens would wait around till their 18th birthday's to have sex? There is no magical metamorphisis that takes place on that date.

Sorry to break this to you, but it's not the Blue Lagoon, it's a 14 year old and the older chick was ordered to stay away and refused. So the parents did what theyhad to do to protect their daughter. If their daughter was 17 then I would agree with you.
