A police officer in OKC shot and killed a mentally ill man who tried to commandere a bus. The guy did try to throw a fire extinguisher at and steal a gun from a cop, so shooting him nay have been necessary, but the cop in question drilled the guys face with at least six bullets then got everyone off the bus, and ducked and and aimed his gun at the guy like he was getting up...Jesus...

I don't see anything wrong here. How are the cops supposed to know he was mentally ill right off the bat? Maybe he appeared to be high as shit and going for an officers gun. You shoot until you eliminate the threat. This guy was going for an officers gun...maybe the cops thought he was on meth and PCP? Its a horrible situation but the cop acted appropriately IN MY OPINION to potentially save his life and his partner's life.

The issue I have is how idiotic that female cop was. Why the fuck are you entering that bus with your gun drawn so far out in front of you. Why are you rushing onto the bus that way? You are in control of that situation, but the way she handled it, took control away from her. If I was her commanding officer, she'd be on unpaid leave and possibly fired.

Looks like the officer is doing everything correctly to me. Got his partner and the driver off of the bus and went back and secured the scene and suspect. Yes the suspect was shot but at that moment adrenaline had to have been surging in the officer and his training kicked in.

Jesus....first, I wonder if the female officer took the right approach by charging onto the bus with her gun drawn. She didn't seem to make any attempt to diffuse the situation. I think the guy was just out of his mind and some calm words maybe would have helped. Then at the point where the cop unloads 6 rounds into his face, it seems he was already subdued. Of course it's hard to see...and going for a gun is a pretty serious move, but it still looked brutal.

I think these just leads up to moving the bus to Seattle.

Apparantly this guy had just hijacked a car prior to getting on the bus. Not like the world lost a real winner.

Damn...he might not have been a "real winner" but he was a human being, a mentally ill one, and it's sad this had to happened

Yeah fucking brutal

There is no reason on earth for the female officer to have drawn a gun in the first place, then she clearly forgets any training she's had and enters the bus with her gun way out in front of her and allows him to grab it, then it appears she has absolutely no training in how to physically subdue a suspect.

Her obvious inability to perform the basic duties of the position, combined with her drawing a gun she was clearly not mentally prepared to use, nearly cost several people their lives, and I'd bet money she was an Affirmative Action hire.

She should be fired from the force, and I expect she and the department will be sued by the victim's family.

The woman officer killed the man. Stupidity is a dangerous weapon.

I think that's a problem with female officers, they aren't very strong so they immediatly have to go to the next level and use a weapon.

It was a total clusterfuck escalated to full moron in under a second.

Are the keys to the bus chained to it? WHY IS THE DRIVER SITTING THERE?
Shut it off and get off, he is lucky he wasn't shot.

Well, at least we can rest assured OKC doesn't go in for all that military style training so many people worry about.

I don't think she represents all female officers...I've seen some female cops that could kick anyone's ass here...that said...the female officer in this shooting painted a bad name...probably a lack of or bad training and she's going to take the blame

Rightfully so.

Well, I think if you are going to rush into tight quarters with a potentially dangerous person, you should have a weapon of some kind drawn. The problem is, if it's a gun, you've pretty much committed to lethal force if they don't comply, and she didn't really manage the distance well in the encounter. He very nearly got her gun from her, and she could have been killed if her partner were not there. But what happened to tasers or pepper spray?

A bit of morbid humor at the end when her partner goes to the entrance of the bus and knees down and points his gun at the guy's dead body. You just unloaded a clip into the guy's face at point blank range. I think you got him.

I think she was huffing her pepper spray, or spray paint immediately prior.

I am wondering if the words "back the fuck up" shouldn't be on the wall of every police training classroom everywhere. In Spanish as well.

I only watched it once, did you see anything he did or was holding to cause you to want to rush up a small stairway and around a corner right into a guy while holding your gun out in front of you?

If he had something that required him being shot do you run to it? I don't and the idiot bus driver sitting there (I don't care what his training may or may not tell him to do, GTFO the bus donkey) didn't seem to think he had a Samurai sword as far as I could tell.

Well, he was barely sure he had an open shot. I wish they could record his thoughts while this was happening.

Yeah, rushing around a blind corner seems like a bad tactical move. Maybe she was trying to protect the driver by rushing onto the bus?

Yeah I caught that too...he had just pumped most of a clip into the guys face, he wasn't getting up

the woman cop was as good as dead if the other cop didnt tag team the dude. was almost a fair fight.

The man was unarmed.

The police around here know how to subdue someone without using a gun. I've seen it a few times when they deal with the homeless.

The officer brought a gun to a fist fight. A taser would have been sufficient. Or a nightstick.

Or a nightstick

Seems like a workable policy change for new tactics. Big cop with 20 ounce baton, lady cop with gun.

It always seems strange to me, when you see cops remove a bear from some town. They bring in the team with the tranquilizer gun, subdue the bear and haul him away. But they shoot the mentally ill guy for not following commands.

I'm all for using tranquilizers, not only is it safer, the videos of people getting all woozy would be hilarious.

How about the bus driver gives the 135 lb guy a kick out the door right onto the ground?

That's what I would have done and then I'd have gotten fired and I could sue....yippee

Tranqs aren't instantaneous, it's great for a bear up a tree but not for a criminal charging a cop.

You are correct Sly. But the difference in the expectations is what gets me. The don't expect the bear to follow commands but
the expect the mentally impaired to follow commands.

Now it seems to me to be irrational to expect rational behavior from an irrational person or a bear. The tranquilizer team always has
a backup with the real deal ready.

I doubt they would yell at a bear, watch it run around a corner and then follow it with their gun out in front of them like this woman did.

Only to be surprised when it attacks.
