you dont have to show id in some states to buy booze/smokes/porn if you look older than 35, maybe they should card all the young looking voters

Discrimination based on youth (as opposed to age) is often allowed (presumably because everyone will get older, eventually). Discrimination based on things that might actually materially affect voting status (other than age) would not be.

The ID isn't free. You have to take off work to go get it. It's an obstacle to going to the polls.

What may seem "free" and trivial to you may not be to someone with 3 jobs and kids to support.

How does somebody get a legal job without a photo ID?

Seems to me that you take your own vote as "trivial", since you seem willing to have it negated by a potential illegal vote.

Birth certificate, SS card, etc.

are you saying they didnt give your parents your social security card when you were a kid? or your birth certificate?

You got your SS card when you were of age to work. 14, I think it was for me. My buddies and I wanted some cash, so we went to work during lunch helping out in the school cafeteria, and also reffed little kids' basketball games on Saturdays before our own HS games.

I did get my BC, though, from Snohomish County Hospital when I was born. That's been standard forever, right?

yeah pretty sure, although your parents likely had to pay for it. :MARIS61:

and you didnt have to show id to get that ss card id guess, although your parents might have had to

They may have even had to take time off from work to bring me to the SS office at age 14.

Also, isn't the DMV a convenience? Why do I have to take time out of my work day every 4 years to go and renew it in person during business hours? :MARIS61:

Hmm ... good point. I do know that when I got my replacement SS card after losing mine a few years ago that I had to show photo ID and my birth certificate. I also had to take time out from work to do it. :MARIS61:

yeah once you lose your first, youre kinda fucked

you need photo id to get you ss card

you need a ss card to get a photo id

wtf

You got your SS card when you were of age to work.

You might have needed to get it to get a job, but that doesn't mean you couldn't have gotten it sooner.
I got mine in grade school, because the parental unit decided it was time.

I'm going to guess it's because your eyesight is bad, so you can't read the expiration date. Here in Oregon, drivers licenses are good for 8 years.

You Republicans need to put up or shut up. Again--show me one election whose winner was changed by unqualified individuals voting. After the Mafia era, like in the last 30 years. And it has to be from individual effort, not from a state government like Florida throwing a presidential election on purpose, which IDing wouldn't have changed.

If you can't, then you are simply arguing for more government regulation without purpose. Carding voters has no more purpose than carding grocery shoppers. You like to list activities which require ID, but you conveniently forget the infinitely longer list of activities which don't require it.

What?

I point out the harm of not protecting one of the most cherished activities that one can do as a CITIZEN of this country and you resort this...go paste on your next obummer sticker, line up for your oregon trail card and ask for your school loans to be "forgiven"

Look who showed up to just post at me.

Not interested, Lupus.

Just correcting a few of your mistakes, "consultant".

It's in PapaG's inner core to go out of his way to make enemies. Even when they are nice back to him, he is impelled to feel offended for the rest of his life and continue his daily attacks..

My post wasn't directed at you (I think I even wrote it without reading your post). It was a general challenge to find any evidence of an election changed because of individual (as opposed to government, Mafia, or the software company counting the votes) fraud. As I said, it would take a very organized, near-Mafia group, and would be impossible to keep secret from the government (so if it succeeded, it'd just be a front for the government).

1960 election. Chicago.

Democrats were busted with voting machines in the trunks of their car during Gore's attempt to steal the 2000 election.

I haven't heard of your second example (link?). If you're compiling a list of elections which are irrelevant to the thread's issue of individual voters changing the outcome of elections, you should put 1972 at the head of your list. The Watergate burglars, composed entirely of CIA and FBI alumni, were caught at only one of their many burglaries.

(It worked so well in florida, they tried it in NY)

Bozo the Clown elected by 300 votes in Minnesota where bags of ballots were misplaced or lost.

http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=94998&page=2#.T4bmVL9YuDQ

Several days after presidential votes were tallied in what has become the hotbed of Florida’s post-election confusion, police in Palm Beach County confiscated a ballot-box mechanism from the car of a well-known local Democrat. The mechanism, called a “Votamatic,” did not contain any ballots. It’s a device used on some types of ballot boxes to punch votes through ballot cards, which are then tallied by computers. According to a police report filed at the Palm Beach County sheriff’s office and obtained by ABCNEWS, Irving Slosberg, 53, pulled the mechanism from his car and handed it over to police on Nov. 11 after denying to a county government employee that he had it.

None of those three would have been helped by voters presenting ID. The first (New York) and the third (Florida) appear to be a party possessing a spare voting machine. The second (Minnesota) was just the usual complaint about questioning 300 votes that happens in any recount.

No one claims in any of the three that unqualified voters voted. They (NY, FL) hint that votes were outright manufactured or that (MN) ballots with chads were counted in the recount but not the first count.

All three incidents suggest ballots were created, altered, or destroyed.

In Fla, for example, taking a few hundred ballots and blindly punching Gore gains him votes. Any ballot for Bush would become invalid since both would be punched. Any ballot for Gore would still be for Gore.

How many democrats, and how many voting machines, were in this car? How many trunks did the car have?
