The thing that pissed me off about this entire story is how Teo didn't even attend the funeral of his 'girlfriend'. I just didn't understand it.

I thought it was odd at the time, and I am a cynical SOB, yet even I bought into the bullshit story that "she would have wanted him to play".

The obvious answer is that Teo lied about it all for some reason, never thought it would matter, yet suddenly was receiving a lot of national media attention and decided for some reason or the other to try to end the story in a way that benefited him.
