OT MarAzul hanging out in the fog.

That is such an incredibly beautiful boat, and I bet it hauls ass in high winds based on the shape.

You know, I have not got a good handle on what she will do yet. I have been single handling for the most part. I have had her up to about 17 knot on a reach single handed. It takes a crew to do all the work required to go fast!

MarAzul @ the Duck Dock downtown.

Turned out to be a pretty nice day once the blanket lifted. I think I will risk it and stay the night here. Move a few
hundred yard up stream tomorrow, to the Tom McCall park dock.

I haven't seen @barfo around today. I'd be worried about pirates getting your booty.

Hey, get your ass up to the Moda for tonight's game. I'm going with Mrs PokerDog. Buy yourself a ticket from one of the scalpers. I'll buy you a beer.

Not too comfortable leaving the boat here unattended. Better hang about and see if @barfo needs anything.

Wow, I have not been up this river in about 46 years. My things change. Nice dock here. I worked right here just about 60 years ago. I am pretty sure we loaded out barges with Concrete moored at the old pier right up stream from the dock in the picture. It was my first job after leaving the Navy. Uh! Ugly job!
There are so many private docks on the river now, amazing. In the days I ran up this river, I probably went by here doing 40 knots. Now If I had a boat that could do it, I suppose it would attract the entire Willamette Navy and the Sheriff for sure.

Lovely cruise grounds, too bad it doesn't extend all the way to Jefferson. It could.

Great pictures. I hadn't realized what a beauty she is.

This morning an old fellow riding his bike on the walk way by the Duck Doc, Stopped turned about and came down on the dock. When he got there, he did not ask the normal questions. He went straight to he point, How long did it take you to build this? I told him, I was a young man when I began. He laughed, and said, I believe you! It is pure art! You do not do this quickly.
I thanked him. I thank you.

Anchored off Maddax Woods & Goat Is West Linn OR.jpgMaddax Woods on the right, Goat Island on the left out of the picture. The Name sake of the MarAzul was built here about 50 years ago by Virgil Maddax. This nearly 30 acre park was donated to the City of West Linn by Virgil maybe 25 years ago.

In Oregon City now. The docks on the east side of the river, just down stream from the I205 bridge.

I have a few questions the most important being why? Why are you here?

Have you been sailing up the river or just using the motor?

When you first talked to me about this some 14 years ago you talked about sailing around the world, are you still doing that?

Seriously, why the fuck are you here? You have the boat and the ability to spend the winter in some pretty amazing places. Not sure the Willamette river would be on my list.

lol, but he gets to hang out with the sea lions. Heck, maybe a few will crawl into his boat and hang with him for awhile.

I have been having a pretty good time Sly. Enjoyable even. One last run with the MarAzul for the year. Some maintenance and off to Sitka in the Spring. Unless of course I come up with another idea.

Well two comments about this observation and I do take it as a complement. Of those amazing places, there are not many that I have not already done or close.

Second, I do not want to leave my wife by herself another winter. It is what it is, and and she is not keen on sailing the boat. So my plans will be what they will be, we shall see. MarAzul in not in Moth Balls nor is the Skipper.

LET'S GO TO FIJI!

Seriously, who cares if you have been there before? Oh no, why would anyone want to go to Hawaii twice. I mean once was bad enough but twice... fuck, what torture.

Grab @MARIS61 and see which south pacific paradise is the biggest shit hole country since Maris seems to be an expert on this.

Sail to the Philippines and see if you can find any of the guys you fought in the Spanish American War with.

I did not answer @SlyPokerDog's query about sailing or motoring up the Willamette river. I am not sure
which reason correct.
I did not want to admit my limitations?
I do not think it prudent for a singlehander to sail a boat the size of the MarAzul in the confines of a small stream like the Willamette river.

Actually I was impressed with the handling characteristic of the MarAzul, navigating the twists and turn of the river under power. I was pleased, I still consider her under shake down, she is doing well.

For me that was Moro Pirates.

Ha! Good point, but five times and now and I can't even anchor in any of my favorite places any more. Liberal rules are discouraging.

Awesome! I didn't think you would sail up the river. Just wondering if this Columbia/Willamette trip is part of the shake down cruise of the boat.

I would love to go to Johnston Island, my mom lived on there for 18 mos when she was a little girl. Nothing much to see there now but it would still be amazing.
