YES!

Blazers G Jamal Crawford will opt-out of his contract paying $5.25 million next season, source tells @YahooSports. The move will allow him to become an unrestricted free agent for the second year in a row. Crawford has a June 15 deadline to opt-out of the final year of his contract and is expected to exercise it soon.
@SpearsNBAYahoo

Was mostly expected but still nice to read it.

Terrific news. Now the team can create enough cap room for a MAX contract offer if they want to.

Crawford was pretty good for us at times (i.e. when he got hot.) The two things I will always remember him for was his unwillingness to pass to Batum and his atrocious fast breaks. He could ruin a 4 on 1 fast break every time.

Given that the Blazers had put in his contract that he had to make his decision by June 15th, I think Crawford knew that it was either opt out and have some control over where he plays next year, or opt in and get traded on draft day. Pretty much a no-brainer.

Good news! Put that money towards resigning Hickson. If only we could get Kurt Thomas off our books. If he retires, does he come off the books? Can we buy him out?

I wish him the best.

When things are going good as Blazer player, things are real good. When things go bad as a Blazer player, they are real bad.

I felt Jamal came in here and did the best he could given the circumstances . . . hell they asked him to play PG at one time. A down year for him career wise, but he tried to bring what he has done all his career, which is score. He didn't and gets the wrath of being the only game in town. I thought he got bad rap, but glad to see him move on.

Very well put and I completely agree. I wish him well.

Bye bye 'mal, you worthless piece of shit.

Good luck to him. I know it didn't work out here, but he would be very valuable to a contending team. The funny thing about all the hatred over him, he is an amazingly nice guy. So nice it makes me nervous. He'd be a good politician once he retires.

You're saying that you get nervous around black guys who are nice?

Now you know how the rest of us feel when we see you cutting our lawns.

Its too bad that he is so nice, because never once did I see him sign autographs in the autograph area in the loading dock at the RG.

I saw him there at the dumpster, emptying everyone's wastebasket. He was always eager to help!

Well step one of ten thousand is down.

Now the hard part begins.

So it looks like we'll have about 25 million in cap space next year after factoring in cap holds for Batum and Joel Freeland. If we re-sign Batum to 8 mil a year, that number goes down to 22 mil with 7 players under contract. Our 2 rookies would take about 6 million total, leaving us with 16 mil and 9 players. That would be enough for a max deal. Or get Dragic for 10 mil and Hickson for 5-6.
