Marc Stein: Team worried about Greg's mental status?

Some of you people are fucking pathetic.

I won't go into any further detail because you know who are and you know the reason why.

Oooh, oooh, ooooh, it's me!, it's me!, I am the pathetic one.

Pathetic practically oozes from the pores of Masbee. His is a sad, sad tale of woe.

I really hope we can bundle these Oden-bashing threads to recall in the future.

As for GO, I bet he's down. He's had the weight of the franchise put on his shoulders and he hasn't been able to stay healthy enough to make a consistent contribution. Regardless of his demeanor, he's a competitive SOB. My guess is that he badly wants to play and to help the team.

You should see a dermatologist then.

Idk if it's been reported here, but Jason Quick said the reports that Oden will need off-season surgery are "absolutely false" and hasn't even been brought up by the team.

His knee continues to get better and he's doing pilates again. Swelling is going down and the knee just continues to get better. He still feels a little pain however, and he feels it when he has to stop.

And btw, James Andrews, probably the biggest name you want to here from, has looked at the MRI's and x-rays and he even concluded that surgery isn't required and rest and rehab is the best action to take.

Pfft, whats that guy done? We have people here who have had knee injuries! they KNOW the truth!

So Monday will be day 7 since the Blazers announced he would be out an additional 7-10 days. Any chance that he could play against the Lakers?

I was worried about Greg's mental status earlier in the year, because he looked so timid. Like this was all too much for him. But he was playing some very good ball before he got hurt again. I'm not sure why some are so critical of him. You know, he's only 20-21, and his body isn't even fully developed yet.

Hasn't he shown enough this season for you all to see he'll be a good player? 16 and 10 when he plays at least 26 minutes. We're not talking Kwame Brown or Darko Milicic here.

Via hoopshype:

I think expectations have dramatically lowered for Greg, both in the short-term and long-term. The mental toll most likely consists of him worrying about his next (inevitable) set back. People bump knees all the time and they are fine. It happens to Greg and a bone chips. It's torture for Greg and the fan base.
Please never go to a Blazers game again or cheer on the team. You are clearly a frontrunner and quick to kick a guy when he is down. Your avatar is down right disgusting. You really give our fan base a shitty name sometimes.
how would you like all of us to go to your family and your job and hold up signs calling you the big mistake..huh?

Some people tried that last week, it didn't work out so well.

I have to agree with Nikolokolus because a lot of you Oden basher's are fucking ridiculous. If it wasn't Oden it would be something else for most of you idiots to bash on or complain about. I bet if we win the championship there still will be at least 5-6 negative people saying we just are not that good if we don't repeat the next year. Fuck it!!!!

I'm just making a simple point:

Kevin Durant >>> Greg Oden

Hindsight is always convenient but it's obviously a huge blunder we made. Durant is a year younger and already putting up monster numbers. He'd be scary if he were on a playoff team, like the Blazers. Greggers is made of glass and he compounds this mistake by being a mental midget who folds faster than a lawn chair.

Keep in mind, this is the guy who at the beginning of the season, said Frye > Aldridge during Aldridge's bad streak.

You're obviously a troll. Or at least a trollish character.

Actually I was just going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he meant it ... then again I'm not sure that's so good either?

Wendys doesn't approve of people holding signs making fun of their workers.

Hey the Wendys bacon cheeseburger is good. At least give Fez a fictional job at Jack In The Box or something.

Sure, and we'd be kind of screwed long term at the Center position. The thing is that there is not that many young center prospects...while Joel has been great...what about 6-7 years from now when our window is ripe.

And Durant....he would probably be forcing up way too many shots, taking away from Roy and LMA. Durant is great if the focus on the team is on durant and having him score lots of points, but I think ovreall in the long run, Oden is the man for championships.

Why is it that people cannot understand what makes a good basketball player? Hey look! Zach Randolph > Tim Duncan - he scores more! Bernard King > Magic Johnson! Allen Iverson a good basketball player!

Durant was rated by one measure as the worst defensive player IN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE. Now THAT'S impressive. But I guess it doesn't matter because he puts up "monster numbers" and the Thunder can't win without him. Oh, wait a minute, though...

The only time I've seen this approach have any success is with Philly's finals run when Iverson was pretty much their ONLY scorer. But even then, that team only won because they had a KILLER defense - played by all the others on the team. And Larry Brown as coach. Then Brown took over the Pistons, who had no "star" and won a title.

You might add the Bulls, but Jordan was a great defensive player. I think the person who compared Kevin Durant with Alex English probably has it right. "Who?" you might say? Exactly. (Apparently he scored more points in the '80s than any other single player.)

I was actually talking about you on that last phrase. :ghoti:

Agreed. It's preposterous, especially when you consider how they handled the Martell situation. Mike Rice (see the "Mike Rice would be shocked..." thread) said that the Blazers put out notice of Webster possibly being out for the whole season to prevent media/fans from chastising him every week about a possible return.
teams do this regularly and have for some time... the :ohno: element in every fanbase mandates it.

As we've seen with Greg and Martell, exceeding the initial injury estimate is like :gasoline: on the mania.

STOMP

So, the theory is silly?

Where did people get the idea that Oden was cleared to play, and that it was his choice not to? It wasn't Quick/Canzano this time. It wasn't an internet rumor. It came from the team. To this day, has the team officially acknowledged that the injury is serious?

How can anyone say the team isn't spinning the situation!?!

Oden's own words in the Oregonian. There are a few threads on the board about it.

Next question.

And btw, James Andrews, probably the biggest name you want to here from, has looked at the MRI's and x-rays and he even concluded that surgery isn't required and rest and rehab is the best action to take.

What does "rehab" mean though? Can he risk further damage to the knee by playing a month after the intitial injury?

A total overreaction on both sides, Tort. Yourself included.

Allow me to make another simple point. Zach Randolph >>> Brandon Roy.

At a younger age, Z-Bo put up superior numbers to Roy. So, he must be better, right?
