Is Marcus Williams playing well on the defensive side of the ball? I haven't been able to watch the games cause we don't get YES at college. If he is going to be the heir to Kidd he has to play good defense in my mind so I was wondering how he was on that end of the court. Thanks guy.
 
Well, he's trying. We all know he's not the best defender...but in the last game, he actually put effort through to defend his man. He ran out to shooters and put hands, and he played pretty good defense, for having a reputation as such a poor defender..

Plus, he "held" Travis Diener to 4 points.
 
Not from what I've seen. Luckily he's not the heir to Kidd

EVEN COLANGELO WANTED MARCUS. GIVE IT TIME, HE WILL BE THE NEXT FRANCHISE PG
 
Not that good, but it's okay he's not Kidd's heir. Getting a defensive PG like Harris was a great move by Thorn.

I can see Marcus playing a role similar to Jason Terry on Dallas. I can see him coming in for Vince and Harris and him taking turns at the point. And then Hassell can come in for Harris. Have one quality backcourt defender with him at all times.

He JUST turned 22, he's coming off of a broken foot and has average only 9 minutes a game in the 23 games he sat behind Jkidd...In the 4 games since starting he's average 12.25 points, 6.5 assists and 4.25 rebounds...keeping all those figures in mind it be idiotic to give up on him this early in the game. Reality is experience alone will mean those numbers will improve offensively and he will at least become somewhat adequate defensively.

Devin is 25, injury prone and has maximum trade value right now...honeslty this offseason I'd try to revist those trade discussions with Portland if possible

since when is it a given that Harris should start over Marcus ? and why would you mess up the chemistry like that ? , I like Devin but lets be honest he isn't the better PG, his passing skills are nowhere near what Marcus will be. Marcus has made an effort on defense on 2 out of his last 3 games, he's also the better shooter. Devin should come off the bench he can be a game changer when you need a stop or an offensive drive, plus they can put him in this type of a 2nd unit

It's no secret that he' never been a great defender. Didn't realize saying he can get good minutes playing alongside Harris and Hassell was giving up on him.

Chemistry? They've played 3 games and won one in OT at home, got blown out on the road, and played well in a win at home.

Geez, let's not get too ahead of ourselves. I hope Marcus plays well and gets good minutes, but Harris is 24 and he should start. Marcus is where Harris was 2 years ago. He should get more experience and coming off the bench will be good for him. He can still make a positive impact in every game.

Harris will be 25 when returns and needs reduced minutes, imo anytime you expand his role is when Harris messes up, this is the opposite w/ Marcus. Harris also would come off the bench w/ his Dallas teammates so instant chemistry off the bench. The 2nd unit could hold the game even and help us more this way. Remember the objective is balance scoring all around, Marcus has done that for RJ evidence his 4 -6 from 3pt range Marcus caught RJ in rythmn even got VC good isos, Kirstic got the ball in the post so did Boone. The starting unit is fine imo.

Now w/ Harris his problem was he couldn't keep Dallas's starters w/ balanced scoring, it was more pass to Terry out of rythmn and give it to Dirk time and time again. The worst was when he tried to run perimeter w/ Dampier and how nearly every time he'd pass the ball to Howard at the 3pt arc instead of hitting him down low coming off screens. I can see him working better w/ Boki and Diop/SWill in the 2nd unit.

Did you ever think that was more a product of Dallas' offense than Harris?

Maybe you should? They run mainly isos, which would explain a lot. Especially the "give it to Dirk time and time again" part.

they ran fastbreak w/ Terry, Bass and Dirk, Devin would always run past his trailor instead of waiting for him, now Kidd is there and they run and Dirk doesn't get caught dribbling the ball to open space for a shot, instead he's catch and shoot now.

I more or less agree with this lineup, but I wouldn't play Boki at the 2 (or much at all if Hassell continues to bring value). I think Harris, Marcus and VC should each get 30 minutes at guard. In the long run, the viability of this rotation depends on how Harris and The Bandit look together, but for the rest of the season (once Harris comes back) the LG should let 'er rip. Then we look to the draft for a quality swing (I agree with NI - Batum would be awesome).

I don't think experience alone makes a player adequate defensively; there are plenty of vets who are poor defenders. But I'm happy to hear that he's trying, because that right there is a substantial improvement.

More like coming in for Nads/Boonie. You know Frank...he loves those extremely small lineups, doesn't matter how many talented big men we have.


It's really getting to the point where I think he hasn't had so many playable big men on a team, that he doesn't really know how to play them. All I know is, with all our big men, they should be getting more minutes, and giving the guys carrying the load (VC & RJ) a bit of a rest. Because we all know what happens when those guys get tired out.

Have a lot of bigs, but not many that can shoot or has post moves. Really only Nenad.
