Marcus Williams was huge tonight...
25 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 steals and a block...
he would've had more assists but Josh, Nenad and a few others dropped some easy ones...

He played with passion, he showed he can play defense...if he continues to show this type of performance than maybe Devin Harris is just a temporary Net...

Portland wanted Harris bad...maybe in the offseason we reexamine grabbing Webster, Jack and Frye for Harris or maybe Outlaw, Jack, Webster, Lafrentz, Frye and a first for RJ and Devin...

btw Jason Kidd who?
lol at Mark Jackson refering to Jason Kidd triple single tonight.

K before everyone starts with the whole Marcus is our man crap...this just 1 game. Let's let him play a few more before we start praising him as the new nets savior...

I gotta say though...GREAT showing tonight!!

24 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists compared to Kidd's 8, 6 and 5. Who would have thought?

I'm just saying he's shown this before...whenever he gets consistent minutes he performs...for the record I've always liked Marcus and have been one of the few people that still believes in him...refer to my post if you'd like.

Thank you! I haven't lost faith in the kid, but he's shown flashes like this before. I still think he can become a good PG, but we're being a bit premature if we're ready to crown him as being there already.

If anything, lets hope that a Harris-Williams backcourt can develop into something meaningful

the next two to three weeks are key. If marcus puts up devin harris like numbers, then we have a wonderful quarterback problem. Maybe they can both split time at PG since Devin can defend SGs and Marcus can play SG on offense. I think they'll keep both guys regardless but it'll be interesting to see who gets to be the starter. I personally hope Marcus keeps it up and puts the effort on defense like he did tonight. I'd rather see a talented guy that we drafted be the starter. I have nothing against Harris but both guys seem to have similar talent. Harris is a quick, defensive shoot first type of guard while Marcus is more of a passer and shot creator.

It's one game and it's not like we cannot have him and Harris work well.

Look at Toronto? Dallas was even doing the same thing.

yeah, it was just one game but he showed MAJOR improvement, i was ready to give up on him but im as optimistic as ever now, he's our only true PG option for now so that might alleviate some of the pressure of him

We still have Big 3!

VC - 33; MW - 25; RJ - 24

You're not alone, I feel like the problem with Marcus is maturity, he is just 21. Maybe he's turned the corner and stopped taking Frank's criticism so seriously and is just playing his game. When he was on UCONN, he looked like the best player on that team during March Madness, even with Rudy Gay on the team. He has the talent and I hope he succeeds.

If we can get a combination with Harris and Williams like Ford/Calderon, we become a pretty dangerous team, epecially now we have what resembles a bench. Hassel will hopefully pressure Boki the same way Marcus was playing outta his skin because of Devin.

Its a good day to be a net fan.

Calm down guys! Marcus Williams will not bring the NETS to a championship anytime soon, and even in this decade. I would trade him in a heart beat since his trade value has gone up somewhat in this game.

NETS mangement wants Devin Harris to be the main PG of the NETS for the decade. Marcus Williams will just be a back-up. We should trade him for some high draft picks in the off season.

Funny what an ultimatum or a career-ending trade (Devin Harris' acquisition) can do to light a fire under the ass of an underachieving youngster, isnt it?

Marcus Williams just turned 22...Devin is almost 3 years older...
he will be a starter in this league...maybe not for this team but for somebody...

moreover by the time he's 26 he's a top 10 PG...
just my opinion...save the post.
I'm gonna refer to it when he proves me right.

Anyone who's watched Marcus his whole time in Jersey should recognize that the kid has uncommonly good court vision and the technique (if not always the judgment) to make any pass in the book. I don't know if anyone noticed, but the two last second one handed floaters he threw up, one of which was an air ball, were attempts at alley-oop lobs for Josh that Josh simply didn't read. If he had, Josh would have had big time dunks with no one in a position to defend. There was another lookaway Marcus made to RJ cutting on the baseline where RJ was fouled that just made you go "ahhhh". Terrific, terrific stuff. And let's not even talk about the excellent shooting.

I have never doubted his offensive talent, only his confidence and the level of freedom he's given to do what HE'S good at without being second guessed constantly or fearing being yanked and given a cold shoulder on his way to the bench. Not coincidentally, in the postgame interview, he said that Vince and RJ set the tone in the locker room before the game telling him he just needs to play HIS game and not worry about mistakes, a message that Frank himself echoed. If Marcus has a growth spurt in these next few weeks and is allowed some ROOM to grow, this is going to be a very fun team to watch because no one else on the team makes the kinds of passes he makes.

Defense is still a problem, but I'm sure he will improve in that area as he gets more and more experience. And the thing is we now have ample guys to cover his back at the rim between Boone, Swill, Diop, and Swift.

This is a thread for Furnace is I ever saw one.
Mark Jackson said on the telecast playing MWill with Devin Harris isn't out of the realm of possibility.

RJ on Marcus:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>“There has never been anyone in the locker room who did not have confidence in Marcus,” Jefferson said. “You look at who he played behind and the tough spot he’s been in. No one was surprised. He did a good job on the defensive end, too.”</div>

One thing I noticed is he does not force anything. There are times where you are screaming to pass it to Carter but it's iffy and he dribbles around for a better look. He's a lot smarter than we make him out to be.

I think they made a conscious effort to keep the TOs down. Only 12 on the night. That's been a killer on this team. They need to work on free throws. That's the other thing that's killed them. Defense, rebounding, attack the paint, few turnovers... that's the keys for this team now.

Nothing wrong with giving a guy credit for playing well. That's exactly what Marcus did in this game.

He made smart decisions, kept the mistakes to a minimum (made less than Kidd usually does), and took what the defense gave him.

He even made a good defensive play in the OT.

I even saw him smile at Michele Beadle!

Good effort, good attitude. Even said the first positive words I've ever heard out of his mouth about Frank.

Just turned 22...the kid has a lot of potential...there's a reason he was so hyped in the draft...he play's big in big situations...people need to get on this bandwagon...no reason he shouldn't be getting 30 mins a game...

When Harris is healthy they don't have 30 minutes to give him.

Why does he need 30 minutes to play well? Can't he come in for 20 minutes and do what he did tonight and help the team win?

I said that before furnace ever posted his ridiculous starting lineup ideas. Unless we get a shooter (Brent Barry, please!), I think it's very much worth exploring to have Marcus come off the bench for Devin (or vice versa, if Marcus is going to play like this!) and then Devin come in for Vince so that Harris would be playing both guard positions. Marcus has to get a lot of minutes if he's going to produce like this.
