Marcus Williams Shows Off as Sean Williams Throws Off Rust

Nice, 666 for Sean, and great game for Marcus. Hopefully this will boost his confidence for the regular season taking some pressure of Kidd. Also good that Sean is getting into game shape, and might be one of the best Young PF's in this years draft.

This is very strange to me. First, he is touted as an athletic beast. Now people say he needs to get into shape. How old is this guy? He is no more than 20 years old and already out of shape. I am starting to question is commitment and work ethic because if I were thrown out of school the way he was, I'd try to be in shape for summer league. He has A LOT to prove, and he won't be proving anything if he doesn't work hard.

Well he was kicked off the basketball team, back in January, I believe. So from my understanding, he hasn't had an organized game of basketball in while. I'm sure he had doubts when it came to getting drafted, so he didn't work as hard.

What do you mean by that? He didn't think he'd get drafted high, so he didn't work out?

Ma3oxuct is right, he should be in the best shape of his life. You're going to tell me that the guy never went to the gym or played in any pick-up games when he was dismissed? He just sat at home and smoked out all day?

He's so much like Stromile Swift that it scares me --- a lengthy, athletic shotblocker with all the potential in the world. The only thing is, Swift's got the same attitude that Williams has, and he's never amounted to anything because of it.

Sadly, there are a lot of things you can teach a player, but a work ethic's not one of them.

It's also important to realize how unpolished Williams is at this point. Even with a work ethic, he wouldn't be much of an instant impact player, especially on offense.

I don't think I'll ever understand picking him at #17 over McRoberts, Splitter, and J. Smith.

I think the 5.0bpg and the Nets lack of an interior prescense what so ever had somthing to do with it.

I hope he pans out, I'll be keeping an eye on him.

I don't know if that would exactly be the case, that he thought he wouldn't get drafted high and just took off doing anything. Even if he wouldn't get drafted high, he would still get drafted and still have to play, so it doesn't even make sense. I know from my own personal experience that getting into game shape is different than "being in shape". I'm never not in shape, but I'm not always in basketball shape.

They could have gotten Stephane Lasme and his 5.1 bpg in the second round though, and they wouldn't have to risk throwing away a first round pick on a player who has no work ethic or respect for authority in the process.

They also need post offense too, especially with Moore potentially leaving, and guys like McRoberts and Smith are much further along than Williams is offensively at this stage in their games.
