Marcus Williams traded!

Being a Nets and Warriors fan, I LOVE this trade. Nets get a draft pick, and Warriors get Marcus Williams that will be good with Nellie mentoring him.

Now granted they are a deceptively good defensive team in their own right but his play making skills will surely be maximized there. Anyone saying this will come back to bite us simply needs to understand that Marcus would never see his maximum potential on our team with the syle of ball we play. Both teams got what they wanted. I think this is a great trade and I hope Marcus does succeed in Golden State.</div>

Took the words right out of my mind. I wish Marcus the very best.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (ak30 @ Jul 22 2008, 12:16 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Dooling is as much a PG as Carter is. He averaged 1 assist last year. How is he a PG? This team needs Kyle Lowry in the worst way possible. Trade Sean or Boone for Lowry and then I'll be happy.

You can sugercoat it all you want. You can trash Marcus all you want. As it stands right now the Nets don't have a legitimate PG on their roster.</div>

If Dooling is as much a PG as Carter, he wouldn't just be making 3.3 million a year. In fact, he'd be the starting point guard on this team.

You might not know, but Carter is actually the best play maker on the team right now. Devin Harris is second, mainly because of his speed and penetration.

We got an almost injury prone starter in Harris, backed up by Dooling and Caroll? Looks like the weak link to me.</div>

Absolutely. I trust there will be another trade that brings in a capable playmaker. Right now, there are only two on the roster, and that's not enough.
</div>

it will be a veteran in the Tyrone Lue mold that will not make waves when he just plays a few minutes a night.

Darrell Armstrong?

We know we still have to make a 2 for 1 trade. I always thought Marcus would have helped move Swift or Hassel....
Now that his 'piece' is gone, what kind of REALISTIC and REASONABLE trade could still be made to "cut some of our crap and cap."?</div>

Swift is already an expiring contract. The Nets could still use the first round pick from the Warriors to try and dump Simmons and Hassell for an expiring contract if they choose to go that route.

Harris is a poor man parker

I had a feeling he would land with the warriors. I would have rather gotten a player back like Belini or possibly work something out for Al Harrington, but i guess this works too. I still want to go after Andres Nocioni the 3 is our weakest position. This is also the perfect time to get him. Deng gave the bulls until August 4th and this is the perfect time to dump Nocioni so they can pay for their other SF. We could workout something like Kristic and KVH for nocioni or a straight out salary dump like Swift and Ager for him. We would have to restructure that 5 year deal though.

This first reound pick we just got for him can help just as much.
Actually i can easily imagine that this trade was made, because for some teams our package can be more enticing with this 1st round pick than it was with Marcus...

i hope marcus does succeed in GSW... and i hope he becomes the best nba player he can be.. i still believe in marcus and its a sad day for him to leave... he coulda been a back up to devin... *SIGH*...

GOOD LUCK TO YOU MARCUS

This year is irrelevant. You guys won't even have the possiblity of getting the GS pick until 2011- then you want them to be a PO team.

thats what i meant. do we want it at 15-20 as soon as possible. Or would we rather wait a year or two. and get it close to top 10.

id rather have it as soon a we can

I think you should love it.

Marcus Camby was traded for the right to switch second rounders...
Marcus Williams was traded for two second rounders (worst case scenario), but it could easily be a FIRST ROUNDER in 2013, if these young warriors improve enough by that time, so that they are not one of the 10 worst teams.
(don't hold your breath while these warriors make the playoffs in the West in the 10-11 season. not much chance imo..)

but this pick is NOT a keeper!!!
It's just a better asset for us in a trade than Marcus was.
I really beleive that this pick will not belong to us when the season starts.

That really is amazing that we got more for Marcus than the Nuggets did for Marcus. At least the Camby deal makes the Clips look like they're trying (to their fans. Asses in the seats).

Actually the Camby deal wasn't for a 2nd rounder. It was for the right to SWAP 2nd rounders.

Marcus deal is light years better. Although the payout is far down the road.

I just edited my post before reading yours

we will trade this pick this summer IMO.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (lukewarmplay @ Jul 22 2008, 01:25 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>The sucky part about this is that when Marcus excels at GS, and he'll do really well in their system, all these guys here are going to say told-you-so. But, yay, we're down to 16, 17 and we haven't gotten rid of anyone I didn't want them to yet.</div>

I'm patiently waiting. But he should probably start now even. Ellis, Maggette, Jackson are all great, but none can (should be) the primary ball handlers for their team.

One of the worst deals in the recent years. Maybe not from the impact stand point, but from a logical one.

They are a rebuilding team who just gave away a promising young player coming off an injury who was making $1.2M per year AND expired before 2010.
Wow. What can be the possible rationalization for this? They save $1.2M? What are they going to spend it on over the next season? Malik Allen?

Maybe they wanted to keep him away from all the new/young players because he talks shit about the coach and has a selfish attitude.

Somebody should start a thread about that.

Just speculating as to the reason they kept him out of summer league and traded him even though they need a playmaking backup PG.

I think it's a pretty solid theory. I've seen a lot of evidence that leads me to believe he's been bitching for two years now.

Frank wanted him gone. He's gone. Good.

I havn't got many oppotunities to watch Nets games, but from the only several chances, I thought Marcus Williams is a very good backup PG, imo he surely will become a starter in the future. His play reminds me a lot of--Jason Kidd! I don't know why Nets fans disliked/hated him as a player, maybe some off court/character issues?
