Two-time defending champion Marin Cilic of Croatia lost to fifth-seeded Florian Mayer(Above) of Germany 6-3, 6-4 in a Zagreb Indoors quarterfinal Friday.

"I made too many unforced errors and could not find any rhythm," Cilic said.

Mayer will play eighth-seeded Michael Berrer, who advanced when fourth-seeded Richard Gasquet of France retired with a shoulder injury while trailing 5-2 in the first set of their match. Unseeded Ivan Dodig of Croatia will play third-seeded Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain in Saturday's other semifinal.

The top-seeded Cilic was trailing 15-40 in the opening game of the match before Mayer won 12 consecutive points and eventually the set.
