Mark James ripped up the history books as he shot a spectacular eight under par 63 in the second round of the Casa Serena Open, setting a new course record.

The former Ryder Cup Captain hit nine birdies in a round that he described as the best chance he’s ever had in his long and successful career to break 60, having even had the luxury of missing some small putts for further birdies.

The Englishman fired six birdies on the front nine without dropping a single shot at Casa Serena Golf before three birdies and one bogey on the way to his lowest European Senior Tour round, which left him two under for the tournament.
