...no, the hand gun is used for DEFENSE or "backup" as you put it...and not typically used for actual "hunting".

...hand guns are for close range...when using a handgun a deer/elk/moose will hear/see/smell you before he gets in "range" and so you probably won't get a shot anyway...a short barreled pistol (44 mag for example) is nowhere near as accurate as a much longer barreled rifle such as a Remington .308 which I prefer...but I also have a .243 which is the flattest shooting and most accurate rifle I've ever owned...at 200 yards I can group 5 shots within 3 inches of each other easily.

...I know what I'm talking about here.
Ya, again, I use a handgun hunting hogs. I've even used one hunting deer

...before spouting off, how about if you take the time to read little more...I NEVER said hand guns could not be used to hunt with...I said I've known anyone who uses a hand gun to hunt with.

...yeah, sure, you can put a laser sight on a pistol..but if really want to risk your life unnecessarily by standing flat footed and putting a laser dot on the head of an 800 pound female grizzly with cubs as she charges you, be my guest. Why in the world would want to wait till the bear is running at you and is in within 50 yards of ripping your lungs out when you can easily take her from a tree from 200-300 yards away.

...sorry, but again, I know what I'm talking about...and no need for me to google "hunting with a pistol".

...lol..well goody for you...I'm guessing your piggies are nowhere near the size of the boars we have down here can literally chase you down and eat you.

...and hunting deer with a handgun mean a much better chance there's not a clean kill resulting in the animal running off to die unnecessarily a miserable death for the same reason I've already mentioned, which is because they are more accurate...do you dispute this?...yes or no?

...and for the umpteenth time...I NEVER said you cannot use a pistol to hunt with.

Your personal preference has no bearing on reality. Pistols are common in hunting, and you claimed otherwise. I was just correcting you is all.

Also, those are scopes, not lasers. C'mon man.

You know that it's possible to use a pistol to hunt with, right?

BS. We all know cars weren't generally available until the early 1900's.

barfo
According to my niece I was driving before electricity. We cut a hole in the wooden floorboard so we could propel the car by using our large bare feet. Shoes? What shoes?

....lmfao ...that only shows what guns are "ALLOWED" for hunting...not what weapons are actually USED in hunting. And sorry but I am a lifetime member of the NRA and have been a registered and licensed hunter in the state of Georgia for nearly 40 years and NO ONE I have ever known has ever used a handgun for hunting.

...you could probably add rocks and rubber band guns and Star Trek Phasers to the list. Can you use a handgun for dove/duck hunting? Yes, but a shotgun is recommended....can you use a 44 magnum pistol for deer/elk hunting?...yes, but a rifle is recommended.
...please don't try to carry on a convo about something that you obviously know very little if anything about...and you call "BS" on me?...puhlease.

...that myopic copy and paste disorder you possess has once again exposed you.
Not true. I've heard of Grizzlies being shot with both a .357 mag and a .44 mag. Kill shots.

Got a buddy who was in ROTC, eventually went on to become a Ranger officer. He's hunted big game with his .357 mag. He later owned a .44 mag but I don't know if he ever hunted with that.

Completely dispute it.

Little piggies?
Down here?

Where are you at?

And there are also instance where wounded bears kill people.
Cool story. You seem to have trouble getting past the fact that, despite your personal preferences, people hunt with handguns and don't give a shit how stupid you think it is. Hell, it may be stupid. I wouldn't fuckin do it for the very reason you stated, but it doesn't change the fact that is is a popular pastime.

...my personal preferences are "my opinion".

...I also said they are uncommon from where I'm from...don't know how many times I have to say this.

...and I was not commenting on you pictures I was talking about handguns in general...whether or not they have have scope/no scope/laser is not the point.

I used to have a gun rack in my 56 Chevy pick up. You could drive around with a rifle as long as it was showing.
Yeah but I'd be concerned about it getting stolen whenever I left my truck to go somewhere for more than a few seconds.

...yeah, I read that the first time you posted it...and you were wrong then too.

The .243 is nice accurate round. But perhaps not the best for all a round use.
What do you think of the .357?

This thread is straying way off topic. Nobody has said handguns can't be used for hunting. Just not near as common as a rifle. End of story. It's just like you trumpers who profess that people are trying to take away their right to bear arms. NOBODY has made that claim either. What people want is better accountability and restrictions to help keep guns out of the wrong hands. Doing nothing hasn't worked either. Time for a change. MADD was very successful in reducing deaths by drunken drivers by putting in tougher restrictions and laws as well as educating the population. Trump said he wasn't afraid of the NRA, but completely backed down when the NRA go ahold of him. Spineless leadership isn't what we need.

It's the thrill of doing something very unusual that very few others have attempted. Me? No way. Might not be a bad backup.

A wounded bear is always dangerous, but I'm sure that whoever hunts a bear with a handgun has a hunting rifle close by.

...Lanny I seriously doubt that if a griz is charging you and you've realized you missed, it may very well be too late to stop and reach for a rifle...this also is why I'd ask, "If you have the rifle, why use the pistol in the first place?"

Back to the topic...this kid with a history of mental illness killed gamers with a handgun...and no handgun protected the victims while they were playing games...he legally purchased them in Baltimore...carried two with ammo into a public venue and used them after losing a fucking video game....now..anyone else care to weigh in on the problem here? I've said my piece about it.

...yeah, I read that the first time you posted it...and you were wrong then too.
Then stop posting your personal opinion as a rebuttal to people saying hunting with pistols is a common thing. You very clearly implied otherwise.

I was taught to never take the sites off the kill until you know it's dead...if followed you wouldn't need to reach for the rifle as it'd be on target as you approached it...they teach this in the army as well..and now I'm done with hunting talk

What do you think of the .357?

...I hunt with rifles only...I have a .243, a 7mm, and a .308 but for white tails I typically use the .243 ...my favorite stand is situated in a very high traffic area where my furthest shot won't be more than 75 yards...and I seldom miss and the deer never go far before collapsing....that's why a "clean shot" is so important to me. I'll shoot 8-10 does for every buck...I'm strictly in it for the meat..probaly still have 60 pounds in the freezer right now from last year.

....357?...meh, it's good for knocking down walls.

People pistol hunt for the added challenge. Similar to bow hunting. Stalk your prey and place a difficult shot. These people aren't loudly stomping through the woods until a bear charges, at which point they begin blasting in its general direction praying for it to drop.

...ha!...no way I'd care to go bear hunting...no way.
