Matching up with the Warriors

I want to see Curry, Thompson, Green and Durant in the same line up and see what they do before committing to a a strategy.
I don't think there are enough shots in a game to keep that line up playing top flight ball. A solution might become obvious. or at least worth a try.

Another good point.

There is only one ball to go around.

One thing there no big 4 in Golden state because with Durant that makes Green another role player. One thing Golden state will be missing is rim proctector so that make there defense not as good. Believe they will miss Bogut alot this year. Yes they got 3 great scorer in there lineup but just one basketball. Thompson already said he not going stop shooting just because Durant coming.

why in the world should he? He's an elite wing who's game is attacking and he'll continue to enjoy a huge size advantage on CJ. The W's are going to attack from the outside in, spreading the court with 4 very potent deep ball threats all with the green light & multiple ball handlers/playmakers. They do a great job of sharing the ball and finding the open man. Commit extra help to slowing the NBA scoring leader/greatest 3 point shooter ever and they'll dump it to point forward Draymond at the foul line to attack the rim with a numbers advantage. Lol at the concept of Turner on him as he'll easily muscle his way to the hoop. They are going to be a juggernaut offensively that will cause everyone fits period. As opposed to most teams, Portland has a prayer as they should have the firepower to keep up some nights if they've hitting on all cylinders, but defensively they'll be hoping the W's are just having an off night as they will get clean looks all night.

Yesterday I started to post something similar to what MarAzul said......that unless the "big three" all got their shots then they would be less effective, because they are all rhythm shooters. Especially KD who oftens starts out slow but got enough shots with OKC (Even with Westbrook) to always find his rhythm in the 4th. So without his normal amount of shots...... he will suffer.

But then as I was writing it, I came to the realization that like Trackjack said......players like Green and Iggy will become even more of a role player. Which will help GS because it will allow them to concentrate even more on defensive and rebouding. So I ended up deleting my post.

There is enough shots for Curry, Klay, and Durant IF everyone else's limits their shots. I think Durant knows he has slipped since his MVP year. He still is great but he can no longer carry a team. If he tries to be the man, the Warriors will suffer. But if he accepts being the 3rd option, or better yet if they all find a way to alternate being the man.....then they will be champions.

I think their offense might slip, but their defense will go up to another level.

Side note: With Curry and Durant most likely all the shots, Klay's scoring will probably go way down, opening up an All Star spot for CJ. Dame will take Kobe's spot.

The key to beating the Warriors will be to make them defend you for almost a whole shot clock and get out in transition quick when they miss a shot. Tire them out. Make them chase you around and run without the ball more than you do.

Anyone consider that Team USA will be important for three of GSW's meshing together?

There best defender is Thompson on that team Curry and Durant are just average and Green is to attack him. Now off ball Green is pretty good not straight up. To me I would attack the rim for simple reason no rim proctor. Now Thompson already said he not going have his offense suffer because Durant coming. But i see that his offense if he doesn't get shots to get in his rythem. Just witness his play in the Olympics.

Here's the Warriors' depth chart:

PG: Curry, Livingston, Clark
SG: Thompson, Iggy, McCaw
SF: Durant, Iggy, McCaw
PF: Green, West, Durant
C: Pachulia, Green, Verajao

How do we defend these guys?

Here's by traditional positions/likely starting lineup:
PG: Dame on Curry
SG: CJ on Thompson
SF: Turner on Durant
PF: Aminu on Green
C: Ezeli or Plums on Pachulia

Looks to me like we might get killed at 4 positions.

So Stotts probably has to go with a non traditional lineup. Something like:

PG: Dame on Curry
SG: CJ on Thompson
SF: Aminu on Durant
PF: Harkless on Green
C: Ezeli or Plums on Pachulia

Looks more like we hold our own at 3 positions. Can Turner handle Green or Durant? That would help us at the offensive end.

What happens when the Warriors go small?

PG: Dame on Curry
SG: Turner on Thompson
SF: CJ on Iggy
PF: Aminu on Durant
C: Harkless on Green

I think this actually plays to our strength. We get to play our 3 best scorers and our 3 best defenders. Plus we potentially get to hide CJ on Iggy.

How about at the 8 minute mark when the benches come in to rest the starters?

PG: Crabbe on Livingston
SG: CJ on McCaw
SF: Turner on Iggy
PF: Leonard or Davis on West
C: Plums or Ezeli on Varejao

I think we clearly outclass their bench if these lineups are deployed.

What's more likely is any two of Curry, Thompson, Green, and Durant will likely be on the court at the same time.

A big question is how we can stop Durant. If Leonard can stick with him, he might be a great option for us. But he's shown to be more effective at post defense. We have to guard him and Green at the same time, so we need to consider both defenders. We want to play Turner for his offense as well as defense, but can he guard either effectively?

What do you think?
We don't. We take it and ask for another for the next two years. We're Kevin Bacon in Animal House. Our only hope is to wait for Marmalard and Niedermeyer to graduate and become an upperclassman.

I am going to go out on a limb now and predict that GSW doesnt win more than 55 games this next season and they do not take top spot in the WEst. The more I think about it the more my gut tells me this just wont be a good mesh of top players and it will cause them to suffer.

My West Prediction:

1) Clippers 62-20
2) SA 60-22
3) GSW 55-27
4) Blazers 52-30
5) Memphis 52-30 (Blazers have tie breaker due to series win)
6) Phoenix 50-32
7) Minni 49-33
8) Houston 49-33
9) Dallas 45-37
10)Sac 42-40
11)NO 41-41

I think the West KILLS the east this year.

Also... in the playoffs we will take GSW out in the second round.

Every year, some of you think the Clippps will win the West and you're always wrong. What is your thinking here?

I think its finally thier time, but if you notice, they still dont even break 63 wins in my prediction. I think they win because they wil beat up on the east big time and I honestly think GSW will stumble, and SA isnt what they were last year.

I hate the Clippers and personally, they can be at the bottom for the rest of my life, but trying to be impartial, I think this is the year they put it together. stay healthy and dominate. All about health though.

Edit...63 wins the west, not 60

Swap Number 1 and number 4.

Draymond has been 1st team All NBA Defense the last two seasons. He's not pretty good, he's elite. No rim proctor/protector??? I would love any Blazer to be averaging 1.5 blocks a game... the 1.5 steals a game would have lead PDX by a mile too. Thompson and Iguadala are also excellent & Durant is above average... in fact his 2015-6 blocks & steals would have led the PTB as well. Basically they're stacked with talent on both ends.

Just shows that if you want to get in a guys head...kick him in the nuts..you'll own him for the rest of the game and have a high defensive rating

I can't tell if youre trolling. We wouldn't even face GSW in the second round.

They play a more aggressive defense than us, which results in more steals. Ed Davis probably blocked shots at the same rate as Green too

I think folks are forgetting that Curry and Durant have been fairly injury prone for sometime now....Curry has bum ankles and they showed in the finals. Durant has sat out a lot of games for a couple years....it's a long season. They stay healthy and play a full season, sure, they're tough on paper. I like our depth and youth against them. I want the Blazers to be to the Warriors what the Suns were to the Blazers in the Lamarcus era...I hope we have GS's number all year
