I think Vonleh will be a fine player. Not soldon him being a high scorer yet though

Look at his growth month over month (Oct/Nov/Dec/Jan) - these are per game:

I don't know that the stats tell the story. From what you show, it looks like he gets (earns!) a few more minutes and his other numbers go up accordingly.

The key difference I see is that he's not looking like a deer in the headlights out there anymore. I would almost consider playing him at the end of games as well as starting him.

The +/- is the big stat in that pic, imho. It backs up the eye test: he's fitting, getting minutes with positive outcome, and building up a positive feedback loop.

I want to say he got real minutes in the 4th against Minny.. but I can't remember.

Yeah, but I want that 3rd banana to be elite. Think what we thought oden, Aldridge and Roy could Be.

That CJ, Dame, and Vonleh are all walking on two legs tells me we've already won.

That said, 3rd banana for that team was about 15-18PPG, 6-8RPG. I think Vonleh can get there, but give it two years.

Olshey is our bargain basement warrior. Some people are buying high priced TV's that get all the channels. We've got the stand alone units that you turn to channel 3 and plug in the cable box. But hell, it saved us a bunch of dough and does the same job!

Yeah I don't see it out of the possibility he averages 15 ppg. I just want him to be able to score in a variety if ways. as in people pay a decent amount of attention to him downlow in order to open things a little for the guards

I just want our bigs getting double doubles consistently...they don't need to score 20 a game. I'm glad we've shifted from the power forward based offense

I have no issues with shifting from a power forward based offense. But it opens up a lot for the guards if teams have to pay attention to a respected scorer from a big position.

Which is a reason I'd like brook Lopez if his foot injuries were past him.

It seems to me that Brooklyn had Lopez, Williams, Garnett and Joe Johnson and failed miserably...Lopez did not make a huge difference on that team while Mason cut his teeth playing big minutes due to his injury..he's got chronic injury issues every year. I don't see him as a good fit here. He's a shooter for sure. Not really a rim protector

Considering at the time that all the others you mentioned (Williams, Johnson, garnett) were past their prime... so, of course it failed miserably.

Batum hasn't been the same the last 2 years. His numbers suck this year (go look it up, its ugly) just like they did last year he had a cute little hot start this season but since like late NOV hes stinking it up pretty bad. PRODUCTION WISE CORRELATED TO THE DOLLAR FIGURE he was getting, its what you call overpaid for Batum. Aminu on the other hand gives u the same defense, same shooting, slightly more rbs all for nearly half the price. Batum has him beat on passing but we have Lillard and CJ for that.

Besides every single year Batum has some sort of excuse for his numbers sucking. "I'm tired from playing for my country", One year its his shoulder, last year it was my wrist hurts, now his new one this year is my big toe is hurting, quite frankly Batum is overrated and god bless the team that will pay him big money with the new cap going up.. I'll take Aminu for 4 years and the equivalent of 4M/yr we paid him this summer with new cap coming into play.
There are so many things wrong in this post I don't even know where to begin. I guess I'll start from the top. He's averaging 16, 6, and 5 on the same percentages as Aminu who's averaging 10 and 6.5. They're rebounds are almost identical. Batum is also a better defender. You're crediting Aminu in a game that LeBron obviously tanked cuz he was mad at Blatt. Plus, the cap is rising 20-25%, not 50%, so it's not the equivalent of $4M a year.

If you look at Batum's season in Charlotte though, he started hot and fizzled a month before the allstar break...something he's done the last two seasons with Portland...Aminu is getting better, Nic is starting to get lazy

even in a contract year

What's Aminu getting better at exactly?

defense and double doubles...have you watched him progress this season or maybe you just don't like the guy? Stotts credits his defense in almost every post game interview but I guess like me...Stotts is a homer

Making riverman more of a homer. ;)
That's an impossibility....I'd say he's probably replacing the scapegoat that is necessary for continued arguments here though so there's always that :)

Sorry, but I am with BonesJones on this one. I feel like he played his best ball the opening weeks of the season. Wasn't there an early season poll here that picked him as our 2nd or 3rd best player? Nobody is saying that now.

I think nobody pays enough attention to defensive contribution...fans in general want the 20/10 from a starter or he's tagged as a good bench player...I think he's improved particulary in knowing where guys are, where to be and when to pass or score...personally, I like him more now than early in the season....

I agree. Aminu is severely under rated around here.

Yep, his DRtg of 105 (vs the team's 107.3) definitely pegs him as our best defensive wing (Ed and Mason are a bit better at 104 each). Also passing the eye test, Vonleh is a 106 (also above average for the team). Now, none of these numbers are awesome (league average is 105.4), but on our poor team, it's pretty good.

Oh, and Nico's DRtg this season?

105.

Aminu is pretty much exactly Batum without the passing or the contract. Are Batum's assists worth 4.7 million dollars per year?
Batum is a great defender and distributor...every big he played with benefited from his style of play..Aldridge definitely scored a lot off Batum's court vision but the biggest example was the pick and Rolo...Rolo benefited from playing with Batum. I think Nic would love to play with Anthony Davis and he's said New Orleans is his favorite city in the states. Aminu is a better rim protecter than Nic...and possibly a better help defender. To fairly compare them you'd have to compare Nic 5 seasons ago when he was Aminus age.

Nic's defense is one of the most overrated things in the history of the Blazers.

I disagree completely with this...he guarded the best players in the world night in and night out while playing big minutes. Anyway, he's a Hornet now. I try to keep my opinion of him balanced ...he checks out of too many games for sure. The playoffs against Memphis closed that door for me pretty much. I'm real happy with Aminu replacing him
