Matthews is absolutely top ten SG

You're nuts because the gulf between Wade and any of those three is wider than the Grand Canyon. There are plenty of other shooting guards that are arguably better than Wade; those three, there is no argument.

I never watched West play so I have no leg to stand on there but Wade is easily one of the best SG of all time. His career stats are great at 25/6/5 on 49% and he is a REALLY good defender in the post and on the perimeter. Plus the 3 rings...

New home game rule. Since we don't shoot free throws chant MVP anytime one of our guys has the ball behind the arc.

I may be the only one, but whenever I see a top 10 list of any position I usually throw LeBron in there mentally. I know he doesn't play all these positions regularly, but it's a little thought experiment I do:

"If I had no other starting PG, and I were forced to use LeBron at that position, would he be one of the 10 best in the league?" "Yes, he would."
"If I had no other starting SG, and I were forced to use LeBron at that position, would he be one of the 10 best in the league?" "Yes, he would."
"If I had no other starting SF, and I were forced to use LeBron at that position, would he be one of the 10 best in the league?" "Yes, he would."
"If I had no other starting PF, and I were forced to use LeBron at that position, would he be one of the 10 best in the league?" "Yes, he would."
"If I had no other starting C, and I were forced to use LeBron at that position, would he be one of the 10 best in the league?" "Yes, he would."

The question is always, "Where in the top 10 would he be?" when I ask myself that. We're lucky to live in an era with a guy like him.

This.

In our system, and with the current chip on his shoulder, he is a top 10 SG.

Value Added (VA):
LBJ 105.5 (2nd overall)
Bosh 39.7 (47)
Wade 35.5 (53)

LMA 55.4 (22)
Wes 51.3 (27)
Lillard 50.5 (29)

Who has the best "Big 3" right now? Not Miami - they have the best player in the world and 2 other guys while we have a TEAM.

Here's VA by position

We are certainly getting quality production out of all three which is the reason the team is doing so well at the moment. To suggest that we have the new big three might be a bit premature. First we have the whole issue that Lebron's Value Added is essentially equal to Wes and Lillards.

We are doing well but Miami is still the defending champions and until that changes they are still the best big three in the league. Not to under value the whole team concept but this is the NBA and not Major League Baseball. One player can make all the difference.

Welcome to RipCityTwo!

One thing that has me so optimistic is how well we played Miami last year, with no bench or true center. Really looking forward to the matchup this season.

Welcome sir. Rookies must turn in their man bags and exchange them for hello kitty bags.

Welcome cmeese. If you hate the timberwolves we will love you

I love Wes as much as the next guy but if we could somehow in an alternate universe land Wade for Wes I'd do it. The guy is a 3 time champ and the 3rd best SG of all time (IMO).
No
I know you said IYO, but YO is nuts. Jordan, West, Kobe are all easily above Wade.
Drexler is better than Wade. Not close. Drexler didn't play with Shaq or LeBron.

No reason to hate the Timberwolves. I love Kevin Love but the rest of the team just is not relevant. If you are going to hate someone hate someone with a chance to win it all. Like the Heat.

OK, according to Hollinger's stats Wesley is currently the 5th best SG in the league. If you go to 82games.com, you will see Wesley is leading our team in both Net Production (+10.5) and Net On Court/Off Court (+11.6). That gives him the highest Simple Rating (+10.9) on the team. The real key to Wesley's high Net Production and Simple Rating is his defense. His own production is 19.2 and he's holding his opponents' production to 8.7, best on the team by a substantial margin.

So, I thought I'd look at 82games.com rankings for Simple Rating and see how Wesley compares to other SGs. As with Hollinger's stats, Wesley also ranks 5th among SG in this ranking. At +10.9, he trails only Klay Thompson (+14.0), J.J. Redick (+13.5), James Harden (+13.1) and Jimmy Butler (+11.1).

If you look at just individual Net Production, Wesley is 4th among SGs, at +10.5. He trails only Harden (+15.5), Butler (+13.5) and Kevin Martin (+12.4).

Tomorrow night's match-up between Wesley Matthews and Jimmy Butler should be interesting. As good as Matthews' defense has been, Butler's has been even better. Butler doesn't just lead all SGs in Opp Production (4.4), he leads the entire league. Butler is the better defender, but Matthews is a better offensive player. It will be interesting to see how these two match-up. Will Butler's defense shut down Matthews' offense? Will Matthews' defense hold Butler below his average?

Should be fun to watch. By these advanced statistical rankings, both players are currently among the top 5 SGs in the league. I know it's still early, but I doubt very few people would have projected both players to be among the top 5 in the league at their position. I know it's still early, but both players are among the top 5 for their position in terms of net production and both are helping their teams win.

Repped as usual with the exception that I believe Butler is out for tomorrows game. But that shows the advantage we gain with Butler out.

I thought no way when I read the title of this thread. Then I clicked on it and looked at the lists........ I only see 2-3 SG's that are clearly above Wes. Wow

truth! hi from the other board btw (stackfan2005 because as rasheedfan2005 i was banned years ago lol)

Hi. It's pretty hard to get banned here. Lot's of strong opinions lead to good discussion, even though sometimes the convo sadly digresses when people intentions are not basketball related. I like the content, and the relative freedom to speak your mind without worrying about being deleted or banned when people don't agree. ;)

Man, Wesley's TS% is insane. He's shooting the ball better than JJ Redick and Klay Thompson.

Monta Ellis is, has always been and always will be a chucker. He has an insanely high USG, above Wade and just below Harden. On our team, he'd just take shots away from more efficient scorers. Plus, Wesley plays WAY better defense.

BNM

For me, the most amazing part about Wes is that he's putting up a 20 PER with a USG rate of 15. That's almost unheard of for a starter at any position in the NBA. I'm sure it will regress a bit as the season goes on (as will the 70% TS%), but if Wes stays healthy, he's going to get open looks at 3s, and he's going to make a lot of them.
