Mavericks, Not Spurs, Could Be the Texas Team to Lure LaMarcus Aldridge Away

And for those of you that think a team will sign Aldridge as a free agent without a guaranteed 3 years doesn't know cap restrictions. You can only go over signing Aldridge if you have his bird rights, so only way to obtain that is a sign and trade or signing him to 3 years or more.
Batum and Aldridge for Nowitski and Tyson Chandler (or chandler parsons)

So you want two guys in their mid 30's for a 27 and 29 year old whom have played together for many years? ok

that's the thing though, LMA was shooting over 40% from 3 until he hurt his thumb, and that accounts for all the 3s he ends with at the shot clock buzzer. The TS% stat is flawed beside because a defense is more willing to give up a 3 than a 5 foot shot. Yes it creates more points per shot (3 to 2), but it doesn't mean that player is a better offensive player. And it doesnt create the huge difference in efficiency you claim.

LA's 3pt shooting helped his efficiency numbers, but Dirk makes 3x as many. TS% isn't flawed, it just takes into account the 3 pointer and scoring off of free throws. Not following your train of thought here. Shooting 40% from 3 is a world of difference from shooting 40% from 2 pt range.

you're picking a couple stats Dirk excels in while trying to paint a whole picture. Makes no sense. He's a barely a better 3pt shooter.. they're the same in the midrange, and LA is better around the rim. But LA gets doubled all the time because he's such a threat, where Dirk gets played one-on-one

IF the rumor report reasons are true…..and that granted is a big ifbut if LA doesn’t want to be here because he thinks we can’t win here…..and is willing to give up 30+ million to get out of town.. oh boy then F him.. And dont give me that he gave us 9 years. He only did that because we had his rights, he basically had no choice. In fact if it was his choice he would have got his wish couple years ago when he wanted to be traded. This guy is super super super wishy washy with this city and fans, IDK what his deal with us is. This is why I say I WISH WE TRADED HIM THIS DEADLINE hes going to screw us bad come July 1st I can just feel it..

Yes he most certainly did. he could have taken the qualifying offer and played out his contract. Then become UFA. But no... He chose to extend his contract and remain a Trailblazer for 5 more years. Learn the game, then post.

In closing:

You would really would hate LA for taking LESS money to go to try and win in say, San Antonio? People usually are commended for that...

Nooo, I was actually talking precisely about their shooting. To state they are the same is ludicrious.

That's not really the point. LA told everybody last year that he would re-sign with POR. If he had not said that, Neil would have explored trade opportunities and gotten something for him.

Considering what Minny got for Love, I have no doubt in my mind that LA would have drawn a return of similar value.

We will hate him if he leaves us this summer because we will get nothing in return for him (except for capspace).

You know damn well that's extremely rare for players to do. That's their first huge pay day they hardly risk doing that and take the first huge payday they get from their team.

First of all this quote is wrong in cap numbers (they have the ability to get there but aren't yet) but...

Of the three NBA teams in Texas, the Mavericks and Spurs currently have the salary cap space to sign a max-contract player like Aldridge, but Bucher's sources indicate the Spurs are "either off his list or not very high on it."

I find it interesting that Bucher's sources indicated the Spurs aren't high on LMA's list.

Trying to fill the void soon to be left by Duncan would be pretty intimidating. At least with Dirk there's not a championship legacy looming overhead - it's mostly a lot of 1st/2nd round exits, which LMA is somewhat familiar with.

Dallas has one pretty much unspoken lobbyist in LA's camp in Kaleb Canales the assistant coach, also a local guy but I don't think that'll sway him anymore than the Mavs could contend if he went there.

Kaleb Canales lol. Glad we got rid of that guy.

My biggest problem with this article is that Dallas has their own FA's to resign.
Will Ellis wait? Doubt it.
Tyson Chandler? Will Cuban be dumb enough to let Chandler get away again? As much as I dislike Cuban. I don't believe him to be a stupid business man.
Dallas has their own questionmarks imo.
Can assume Rondo is gone.
If Dallas waits and Chandler/Ellis walk.
So that leaves them with who to put on the court that makes them a contender in the West?
Parsons? Harris? JJ?

Plus lets not forget. Aldridge does not like banging with 270 pounders in the post.
Also I highly doubt Dirk can play the 3 defensively. Imagine how often he'd get burnt.
Let alone if offenses made him play pick and roll defense when his man is the other small forward...
30mins for Aldridge at the 4. Dirk has 18mins left there along with whatever minutes they can steal with one of them playing the 5?
If I'm Dallas I'm not going for Aldridge as a FA. I'm looking at other options.

Dallas has been rumored to not want to bring Ellis back for chemistry reasons. Ellis was the mavs best player last year too

Letting Ellis go would be foolish, he fits the team great when Rondo isn't playing.

I could see a team like Indiana picking him up and end up in the ecf or finals.

Ellis is the one with the option so he is going to be deciding if he wants to stay another year or try to get a bigger contract from another team.

According to the Dallas media as of yesterday, Ellis wants a raise but Cuban won't give him one unless he opts in. Ellis won't opt in unless he gets a raise. They are at a stale mate. Dallas wants him back. Ellis wants to get paid to come back.

That isn't even allowed with the CBA. The ONLY way for Ellis to get a raise this year is if he opts out. His options are either to opt in and play for his current contract, or opt out and test the market. Dallas just said that they would not pay him any more... which means Ellis would be onto a new team.
