They ACTUALLY want a GM and not a yes man? Honestly, if they wanted another yes-man, they could have easily filled the position by now, or just kept Buchanan. My "glass half full" reason for the search taking this long is that hopefully they are looking for the best man for the job.... I hope.

Paul has had autonomous GMs before (Bob and KP). I don't see any reason why he couldn't do it again.

Getting back on topic, my thought is that they want the ability to say that they went out and got someone that's not gonna be a yes man but really in his heart of hearts Paul Allen wants a yes man. Maybe he wants someone to be in charge and run the team and what not when he's not around, but when Paul Allen is around he still wants to make the decisions. When Paul Allen says something like "Let's give Darius Miles a big contract" he doesn't want a GM that's gonna tell him no.

Maybe it's that he wants someone that he thinks is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good that he doesn't feel like he'll ever have to say no.

I don't know if I agree. I think Paul loves to be sold on something. He had a great relationship with Trader Bob, and Bob has most definitely NOT a yes man. He was just really good at selling bob on ideas. After all these years, Paul Allen likes to be excited just like the rest of us, but he needs someone that knows how to get him excited about a move. KP was good at that as well.

And in all fairness, Paul became extremely paranoid about losing a young guy after the whole Jermaine O'Neal thing. That's why he extended Darius. He's afraid someone (like Batum) is going to go off and have a huge season for another team. Can you blame him?

That makes zero sense. So, they wasted a year by searching for someone who isn't a "Yes Man", and had a "Yes Man" fill that role while Oden and Roy left, the team crumbled, and what looked promising two years ago now is a dumpster fire?

...and because of Trader Bob, Paul ended up losing the RG to bankruptcy. Plus, Paul just had a year to extend Batum with nobody to tell him no.

Agreed. The guy got Gasol, drafted Bynum, and got Chris Paul till the league stepped in. But now it's Jim Buss' show, so maybe Kupchak is available.

I think they are going to struggle finding the best man for the job under the current organizational structure. The 'best man' for the job will more than likely need full control. That means someone has to go. (clears his throat) Larry.

Mitch for instance. I can't believe he will leave his current situation for a role where he knows he won't have full control. Once he is told that Miller has veto power, I think that will kill that. I think that will kill it for any one with a similar resume. Ainge for instance. The position is set up for someone looking for their first shot at the general manager position or someone looking to get there feet wet. Better go back looking at the Dennis Lindsay's of the world.
