Frankly, Denny, I think you are begin overly analytical. Trump is an attention junkie. A rich dude who expects everyone around him to be sycophants. The Mr. Burns of reality TV. Some rich dudes buy sports teams. He tried buying politicians. Then figured why, he could be one himself and get more attention. When he talked about running in the Reform Party, he called for taxing billionaires, legal abortion, marriage equality and immigration reform. Now he wants to capture the hard right of the Republican Party, he says the opposite. He has no political principles. The ruder and louder and more despicable he is, the more attention he gets. It's why I likened him to both the class cutup (the one who is NOT funny) who interrupts smart kids with loud farts and the anoymous people who troll message boards posting rape threats and personal insults.
Actually, your list of Democrats (Clinton, Reid, Kerry) are pretty solidly centrist, but that's not really the argument.
What is sad is that there is a pretty large segment of the American population who will support him all the more the more despicable he is.
