McCollum's Defense

Let not single out just CJ on defense we got a whole team struggling on team defense concept and it on the shoulders of the coach.

Because, he's supposed to be able to defend players 7" and 80 pounds larger than him, right?

You know what, maybe it's not his fault that someone expected him guard Boris Diaw.

Um... No... When you're as small as CJ, you're used to everyone posting you up. He could've at least put a body on him. Stop giving him a pass...

I'm 6'5", 230. If Karl Malone posted me up, even from the arc, I'd be lost. Well, really, I'd be flattened. CJ's biggest error was not taking the charge. However, the next time that situation presents itself, I doubt he makes that mistake again.

So you admit that even you would put a body on one of the best post players ever?

I was also wondering if he could have just set his feet and taken the charge. Maybe Dvvis can shed some light on this for us. Are you allowed to run someone over with your butt in basketball?

Plus, what the fuck was the rest of the defense doing? They just stood around and watched it happen like a bunch of retards. Why not help the guy out? Trap Diaw, go in for a steal or something.....

Also, notice that LA was in the key for the entire video. who knows how long he was in there before?

I like Plumlee's scrap and ability to finish around the rim etc....but I don't think he's a very natural rim protector. Look at him just stand there and watch.

I think this can be our new mantra for the defense this year. They scored withOUT. any. effort.

That's what I thought. They were like the characters in Seinfeld watching a mugging, and joking about it.

Yeah, I agree. I don't understand why there's a thread singling out McCollum on defense when the entire team bar Aminu has been struggling on that end.

I literally yelled "TAKE A CHARGE" at the screen when I saw that.... :smiley-195517897341:smiley-195517897341:smiley-195517897341
We have been pretty terrible at taking charges this season. I actually can't remember even one charge taken on purpose yet.

People are calling CJ's defense bad because he gave up 2 points in a mismatch? And Shaq could've probably posted up Jordan. What's the big deal? CJ's defense is underrated when guarding actual SGs, not PF/Cs.

He didn't even make an attempt to do anything on that play. Put a fucking body on that fat ass!

Quit drinking the Kool Aid King speed and step into reality!

nah.,..I disagree..he doesn't lack effort, you can tell he tries but he's a poor perimeter defender but he has quick hands and tries to get steals when defending one on one...leading too often to blown coverage. I think he'll improve but true 6 men like Jamal Crawford, Jason Terry, Mo Williams etc are not in the game as defenders, they are volume shooters who try to impact the offense. Gerald Henderson is a real defensively talented guard

I don't think it's gonna get better with time.
He's not athletic\strong\tough enough imo , maybe he and Lillard can get better under the right coach, i don't know...

Not athletic enough? Dont his quick cuts and change of direction and ability to hit shots off balance and jump high and at all angles kinda debunk that?

This is a joke thread right? It's only a torn thumbnail.

Who should end up starting but probably never will (unless we go small and bring Beibs off the bench).

Dammit D!!! He is no B! All he did was P!!!

OH HELL NO! EASTOFF AND ORION GONNA GET MAD! :MARIS61:

Damn straight.. don't be talking about bringing my boy off the bench!!!!!

The coldest part is that your feet don't have to be set. You simply have to maintain a legal guarding position. Once that is obtained, the offensive player must go "to & through" the defender.

CJ made an in-game decision and it didn't work out. He couldn't stop Diaw from backing him down, no help came, he didn't body up and flop to try to take a charge, and he didn't start hacking at Diaw hoping to get called for a foul.

I'm sure every arm chair quarterback here would have done the right thing at the right time.

It was one fucking play. SMH

You know what type of "athletic" i mean here.
I can also claim Steve Nash was athletic as hell and i would be right, but for some reason it didn't help his defense a whole lot.

I'm actually trying to think of players who were like CJ physically and somehow turned into solid defensive players... Billups,Dumars maybe?
