Notice McGowan out

Probably. So, next question, how can Olshey possibly survive this?

:dunno: McGowan falls on his sword and takes the blame for any toxicity in the workplace? At this point nothing about this franchise, no matter how twisted, would surprise me.

The buck stops with the President of the Organization.

He was the guy who had the power to fire Olshey. Bad decision making and a well known toxic work environment, yet he did nothing about it for years and years, meanwhile tossing guys like Mike and Mike to the side like trash.

Corporate stooge.

I don't believe Olshey reported to McGowen. My understanding is Olshey was in charge of all basketball ops wihle McGowen was in charge of everything with the business. They both report to Vulcan/Allens

I don't care that hes gone, did a terrible job with the root sports deal. But what's happening? Im hoping Jody sells the team Neil is fired and we completely blow up the roster and start fresh. Is this the start of that?
Technically the Big Bang was the start of that.

I am curious is he just stepping down from the Blazers? or all his positions?

I read he got another job...movin' on up I guess. I'm sure getting away from Olshey drama was incentive as well..his contract was almost up

McGowan can say what he wants about his resignation being isolated, but his timing for the announcement is anything BUT coincidental.

The decision to leave was several months in the making, McGowan said, and was entirely “separate” from the Blazers’ investigation into Olshey, which the organization acknowledged last week. McGowan, who was hired by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen and who reported to Jody Allen, who inherited control of the team following the 2018 death of her billionaire brother, will be replaced as president by Dewayne Hankins, who previously served as chief commercial officer.

McGowan acknowledged that the timing of his departure might raise concerns and declined to discuss the investigation into Olshey. He added that Billups’s hiring process wasn’t a factor in his decision to resign and said Portland’s first-year coach is an “incredible human.”

“[Fans should] keep the faith,” he said. “The business is doing really well. It’s going to continue to do well under Dewayne’s leadership. We have a really solid staff, and we have a really solid senior leadership group there. Jody and [Vice Chair] Bert [Kolde] are playing an active role and helping steer the organization as well. ... I understand that people are going to form their own opinions [about the timing]. This is my decision and it was based on the things I just shared. Whether or not people believe that is not for me to overly stress about. I know why I’m leaving, and it’s so I can pursue other opportunities.”

Just curious it is all over the Blazers twitter feed and news, but nothing on the Seahawks side. Would think with him being in the same position over the Seahawks it would show up on their news also? curious.

So here's my pure speculation on what's going on...

McGowan and hankins have been working together when the LA Kings won the Stanley cup. I think hankins was always the heir apparent if McGowan had his way. I'm guessing that Olshey is going to be stepping down. With McGowan resigning and hankins being promoted to team president this gives him a chance to be directly involved in the next hiring of the GM and to put his stamp on the future of the franchise.

decent theory

one of those stories said McGowna actually re-signed on the 1st. Not sure what the delay in announcing was about

I just think it’s a toxic place to work. Bad environment. Clearly. McGowan can pick and choose jobs at this stage. Why deal with this? Team is nowhere remotely close to a championship, the owners suck and will likely sell, why stay?

Makes since..I wonder if McGowan is interested in Hockey again? Not sure if the Blackhawks have found their new Pres/CEO?

The popular belief around the NHL is that the Blackhawks are eventually going to hire a president of hockey operations and a general manager, after Bowman held down both titles for the past decade. That's how much work there is to do.
