With Cuttino Mobley still not in uniform following his trade to the New York Knicks, the New York Post has made reference to the possibility of Mobley filing papers for a medical retirement today because of a heart condition.

The move appears to be bizarre considering the condition was detected when Mobley was with the Houston Rockets, and he has played without problems with the Orlando Magic, Sacramento Kings and L.A. Clippers since then.

Mobley was averaging 33 minutes and 14 points a game this season before the the trade.

Allan Houston and Patrick Ewing Jr. are the two likeliest candidates to take Mobley's roster spot.

looks like it's official now:

New York Knicks guard Cuttino Mobley is retiring from the NBA because of a heart disease that he says has gotten worse.

Mobley announced his decision at a press conference Thursday at the Knicks' training center. He confirmed he has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and said he had no choice but to end his career.

The Knicks acquired the 11-year veteran last month from the Los Angeles Clippers. He never played for the Knicks after his physical exam and subsequent visits with specialists showed his condition was worse than previously thought.

Atleast it was caught before anything major happened

True, just a shame to see him leave the game. I mean he's never really had anything serious before and this pops up....must really suck. Good luck to him.

So what happened between LA and NY that changed everything? I don't see how you can go from playing 33mpg to all the sudden retiring. I know he had the heart condition, but if it was this bad, why was he even playing? Seems weird to me.

I thought the same, but I guess the Knicks doctors took it more seriously since Curry was having some heart issues a few years ago.

It's a shame, he would have fit well in the system. We could have used his defense and outside shooting. I wish Cat the best though.
