Fifteen Senate Democrats are now backing a single-payer healthcare plan which would expand Medicare coverage into a universal health insurance program for all Americans. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) introduced the Medicare for All Act on Wednesday.
In a social media post, Sanders noted that 28 million Americans are still without health insurance, and took a swipe at Congressional Republicans for attempting to repeal the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, earlier this year.

"Our idea is to do what every other major country on earth is doing, and that is to guarantee health care to all people as a right, not a privilege," Sanders said. "I know that taking on the health insurance companies and Wall Street and the drug companies and medical equipment suppliers, all those people who profit off our dysfunctional healthcare system is not going to be an easy fit. The only way we win this is when the American people stand up, as they are, and demand real change."

If passed, the Medicare for All Act of 2017 would replace the current healthcare system with a public system paid for by higher taxes, covering everything from hospital stays, doctor visits, mental health program, dental, vision and reproductive care, including abortion.

Employers would pay higher taxes, but would longer have to cover insurance for workers, and there would still be private insurers for people who wanted elective treatments like plastic surgery. Doctors would be reimbursed by the government. Consumers may have to pay up to $250 out-of-pocket for prescription drugs, with incentives to use generic medications.

The bill calls for elimination of premiums for private health insurance, deductibles and co-pays.

Long-term care would not be included in bill but covered by separate legislation, an adviser to Sanders told CNN.

Ok then why would you be upset at eliminating your healthcare premium and paying $500 more a year in taxes?

My employer provides healthcare, but 500 a year isn't going to break the bank. But I'd rather NOT pay extra. I pay that much for dental anyway.

But you eliminate your premium. How much do you pay a month for healthcare?

I'd support it if it was paid for by a national sales tax.

I agree. Why should those of us that work hard pay for healthcare for the worthless bastards that are fully capable of working but choose to screw the system and live off of government assistance (my tax dollars!) and spend their time protesting everything.

Lucky you. I'd wager to say 90% of us pay a premium.

Mine with my son is $350 a month for a Kaiser Gold Plan.

Medicare for all saves me $3700 per year. I'd put that money right back into the economy.

Those old folks that we pay for now sure are worthless huh?

So are those MFs in congress who get premium care.

You should be ashamed of this stance.

EVERYONE needs healthcare. Poor and rich. And newsflash, not every poor person is that way because of being lazy.

As a single male making decent money with no kids and not that much investment income, I get fucked the most at tax time. IMO, there should be no deductions for kids there should be a penalty if something like this were enacted.

Read my post and maybe comprehend it before you freak out! "fully capable of working but choose not to".

Those people are few and far between.

But those lazy people, they deserve to die if they get sick.... Just like jesus said, I'll heal the sick when they can pay.

If I may ask, how so?
I always get more of a tax return by 2-3k than anyone I know with kids or married.
I'm not married and claim 0 dependents.
One of my friends actually stopped talking to me because what I got out from tax returns. He believed I was somehow scamming the system.

Higher tax bracket.
Not a lot of deductions.
Not married.
No kids.
No small business.
Live in California.

Chances are you take a lot out of your paycheck anyway, so you pay it forward and just happen to get money back when its all said and done.

Yeah a good bit does come out of my checks, but it's not me getting screwed come tax time in the least.
I expect about 4-5k in a return in 2018. As long as nothing major happens between now and then at least.

Raise your deduction from 0 to 1. You're giving the government free use of your money for the year.

No thanks.
My grandmother forced all 12 of her grandchildren to take her class in the summer.
She's an accountant, and has worked for big firms etc.
We had to take it until we turned 20. She gave us tests, and it was obnoxious... At least that's what I thought when I was a teen.
Now though, I couldn't thank her enough. I know how to manage money... Which most of my peers don't.

I do zero deductions too, makes you live a more frugal mindset if you take home less! If I took out more I'd probably just end up buying more stupid shit with it.
