OT: Melo to Knicks in 3 way with Minnesota

I can't believe there's not a thread about this here. It broke last night and appears to be near official. I think it works great for all three teams. Knicks get Melo. Nuggets get Chandler, Brewer, and Minnesota's pick (possibly the top pick in the draft). Minnesota gets Anthony Randolph and Curry's expiring contract.

This is going to shake the league. This makes the Knicks a contender out East. But Denver will still make the playoffs with Chandler, I think. This is a big big deal. I'd love to see a Knicks- Heat playoff series. Go New York, Go New York, Go!

So disapointed that Portland didn't get involved in this deal. Although I guess I shsould just accept that this is how it's going to be and move on

Makes sense for the wolves to balk at that, which I guess doesn't make sense for them if you think about it

Knicks get Melo for just Eddy Curry, Wilson Chandler, and Anthony Ranolph?

Is that a joke? This would be on par with the Pau deal in how unbalanced it is in favor of the big market team.

It's not really that unbalanced when you think about it. Consider these two facts: Melo has made it abundantly clear that he plans to leave the Nuggets in free agency and has only one destination in mind -- the Knicks. So faced with the prospect of losing him for nothing at all or at least getting something of decent quality the Nuggets are smart to try and get something.

shhhhhhhh

its what good gm's do.

now back to fantasy land.... teams dont make deals like that. mixum is nuts.

You're saying it yourself, sorta. Denver is trying to scramble and get scraps rather than nothing at all. I guess that's okay considering the circumstances, but still, the fact remains: they're trading away a ~top 15 player in the league for Wilson Chandler, a glorified scrub in Brewer (who essentially duplicates Afflalo), and a highly protected first round pick.

Minnesota gives up their #1 pick? Kind of doubtfull.

Who in that sceanario did you want? Curry and his contract.

That's hilarious. The Nets deal was 10x better.

I would love to have Randolph, and Curry for Roy would be amazing. I woul dassume Minny will end up with a pick as well.

So let's say Rudy and Roy for Randolph, a 1st and an expiring? I would do that

What do we get?

What it all boils down to is Melo... the Heat could offer LeBron and Wade for him, but if he isn't willing to sign with Miami, they wouldn't actually pull the trigger. Melo had the Nuggets over a barrel.

Well, then you'll always liekly continue to whine and be disappointed if you are expecting a deal like that. Minnesota is taking on Curry so Denver doesn't have to, saving them a ton of money, and you think Cho should interject himself in the trade, and throw Roy into it? Doesn't really work to just dump something you might not want into a trade, but yeah, I guess I can see why you have complaints with Cho if that's what you expect.

No. I think Cho should have tried to replace Minny in that deal, not simply add Portland into it.

You are nuts if you think big time players would agree to being dealt to Portland.

Also, this has happened what? Once and maybe twice? So there's only one, possibly two "good" GMs in the league? Keep dreaming.

Portland does not have Minny's cap space. That is why they are intergral to the deal. Denver wants to be out of the tax if/when they trade Melo/

With what? Exactly who would you throw in from Portland that is supposedly equal to Minnesota's number 1?

This isn't Minny's first pick that they're throwing in. Multiple other sources say it's the protected Grizzlies' pick that the Timberwolves own.

Ok even so. What do we have that is worth even that pick?

Well, looking at the records, our own pick and Memphis' should be similar.

And the Minny forums say it's a future pick from Utah (Al Jefferson deal), so that's about the same value as our NOH pick. Either way, the pick isn't value here. It's the capspace that Minny is offering by absorbing Curry.

I call bullshit. The Knicks won't have the cap space, and we have NO idea what the new CBA will look like. If I were the Thuggets I would take the risk. Everyone here in Denver knows Melo is all about the money, not just because he likes money but because he uses his salary as a measuring stick against other players.

Wel if that's the case we would be screwed anyhow, aren't we over the cap? Also I do not think it is a good idea to take on anther bloated contract when we already have Brandons we are going to be dealing with for the next few years.

Ok, so we have the first round pick, we arguably have a comparable player to Brewer to add in. Now, where do we get the 11 million in cap space to absorb Curry, and save Denver on the LT? Wanting a deal to get done is one thing. Wanting our GM to create some REAL imaginary cap space to just absorb contracts in a trade is another. And then on top of all that, you want to include Roy in the deal. It's completely laughable, especially with your constant griping about Cho not getting something done.

Actually, I think the Knicks could likely dump enough salary to be able to sign Melo and then force a sign-and-trade with the Nuggets in the same fashion that Miami used against the Heat. The Knicks are only committed to around $41 million next season and probably could dump a couple of guys to teams with trade exceptions or ending contracts if needed.

Stern had better do something about this new prima donna-driven NBA contender-building phenomenon in the new CBA. Sounds like the next guy wanting to get in on it is Dwight Howard.
