will say it again... theres no way our starteRs can outscore theres or many other teams in this league. not enough fire power without roy

For the record: Blazers 100 to 99. Wesley 30 points. Say it again, Eyore.

Not to say Wesley is as good as Roy, but tonight he gave the team everything Brandon does AND Wes plays defense. That made him better than Roy...for one game. The question is whether he can keep it up.

Our starters outscored theirs 89-81. Matthews' shooting was much better in the 1st half than in the 2nd, which is the opposite of Roy's pattern. Replace Matthews with Roy, and we'd have won the 1st half by less (the usual early deficit we run with Roy), but the game by more.

It's interesting to see how much Billups has regressed.

Averaging 14 and 4 in 32mpg, but is shooting 34% from the field, and 31% from three.
He's been a guy for several years now that controls a game while looking bad in the box score.

Paul
Williams
Nash
Rondo
Westbrook
Rose
Billups
Curry
Parker
Jennings
Kidd
Evans? I don't really consider him a point guard.

I'm not saying all these guys are better, I'm just putting up names who are in the conversation.

Are Curry and Evans point guards? I'm not really sure.

I like Wes a lot - but I am going to guess that he can not. Any team that actually can play perimeter defense is going to give Wes a lot more problems than the Griz did. I do not think he will ever be able to score as consistently as Roy does/did - but it is still great that we have him.

Wes did great but once the scouts check him out, they'll start defending him better.

It depends if he can readjust to defenses because he is quick and more explosive than Roy.

Btw, just read that Nick van Exel and Kenny Smith were two players who didn't have meniscus in their knees. And they had long careers.

Great win! GoodNight! By the way, Camby said his ankle is OK.

Well, we won. I hate Matthews game so much because it reminds me of Outlaw's game. Great to hear Camby is ok. Hopefully our coach can get the offense going more towards the basket because relying on Andre Miller jump shots to win is a recipe for disaster. We got lucky we were playing Memphis and not most any other team. Still, it's better to win these games than lose them.

One thing that can't go unmentioned is 21-10 fast break points in favor of Portland. Outstanding to see

Wes is not a rookie. So it not like they have not scouted him. Their announcers said he played well against them last year too. You can't defend his hustle points. His 3 pt shot will not be there every game though.

I also don't think Wes is that quick or explosive. He just has a great motor. (He is "scrappy" -LOL)

I didn't see Mathews take one jab step pull up jump shot when he a clear lane to the basket.

That's pretty much all Outlaw does.

Can you explain where you see the similarities because I just don't see it at all?

It's the way they talk so similarly.

Are you serious? yes good win. But speed is right. how many nights is wesley gonna score 30 and hit 5 threes? Not many. Millers jump shot is a coin toss, and Rudy regresses each game. No scoring from our bench. Wait till we play a denver.

Only that he is a huge chucker.

Yeah, because Denver is playing like a house of fire!

Wait, I mean, a house ON fire.*

*sorry to anyone who recently had a house fire, knew someone who had a house fire, saw a house fire, heard of a house fire, want to set a house on fire, knows someone who owns a house, knows someone who started a fire, owned a fire, built a fire, can spell fire or read this post.

My brother is an Inuit who died of hypothermia in his igloo.

I only wish he'd had a fire. Or a house.

You fucker.

Remember, Mook......Teach a man to start a fire and he is warm for a night, but light a man on fire and he is warm for the rest of his life.

I hated Wes' game, but he was clearly out of place as a gunner on the second unit.

But I love his fire, and movement without the ball as a starter, when LA and Dre find him when they're doubled. He's aggressive with everything that he does, be it on-ball defense, fighting for boards, or cutting to the hoop. I like that.

He can work out here, but he just needs to tone down the chucking a bit. And pass it to Nic a little more.

I agree with all of this

How about the rest of us? It's not a real apology for what you did if it's addressed only to those you offended.

Roy being out is addition by subtraction.....

Absolutely.

It's only the chucking, and I think he can get better at that......at least I hope so

If he's chucking, we know it's because Nate is telling him to do so. Don't forget how short Nate's leash is. If Matthews was shooting out of turn, he would get yanked so fast it would knock Rudy's hair out of place (and that's hard to do with all that hair gel).

How to get better at chucking. A 3 steps program by Mediocre Man:

1. Fire Nate.
2. Faster Pace.
3. Rinse, Repeat

How did I do? ;)

A chucker who plays defense. Outlaw never played defense.

Outlaw only had one shot too. The turn around jab step jumper. He would turn an easy shot into a hard one every time. Hell I was watching New Jersey play the other day and at end of game Travis ended up with the ball with New Jersey only down by 2. He got double teamed at the top of the key, and had both Anthony Morrow (Wide open) and Jordan Farmar (Wide open) at the 3 point line. Both clamoring for the ball. What did he end up launching? A forced turn around jab step jumper. He missed and got the rebound and was still double teamed, and both guys were still open. He threw up some shit and the game was over. I don't miss that guy, and I never will.

Yeah, serious as a heart attack. You said that starters could not outscore the Griz starters. You were wrong, as jlprk pointed out. You said we don't have enough fire power with Roy out. You were wrong, as Wesley performed better than Roy....for one game.

Don't really give a rip that you can keep pointing to games that we might lose later, you were wrong about your Eyore bs for this game. Go ahead and admit it....it's good for the soul.

Go Blazers

I would also point out that for as good as Wesley played, many of our players did not have good games, at least for several quarters. Miller really did stink it up for about 3 quarters before finally having a good 4th. Like stunk it up bad. Batum was also very passive on offense. He wasn't moving without the ball, and was standing around a lot. Rudy went 1 for 7. And Portland still won when Memphis had all their main guns, and home court advantage.
