Re: ALL ABOOOOOOAAAAARRRRDDDDDDD!

I didn't see the game, but it's good to hear about Martell having a good game even though it's against the crappy Wolves. I want the guy to play well since we need him and I've been in his corner, but we need to see more of this.. and against better teams. C'mon Webster!

Re: ALL ABOOOOOOAAAAARRRRDDDDDDD!

Webster is just bizarre. He'll miss 6 shots in a row, then hit three in a row. Then the next shot he takes won't even hit the rim or backboard. Tonight, when he was hitting every 3-pointer he took, he calmly stepped up to the line and missed two free throws in a row.

Tomorrow he'll probably throw a ball at the side of his house and miss everything.

i laughed at that too, since we were up big but damn, he should be a better free throw shooter.

Re: ALL ABOOOOOOAAAAARRRRDDDDDDD!

Big Props to Webster for his effort last night. I know I slam on him because of what he hasn't done, but when he does something right he deserves some props.

Re: ALL ABOOOOOOAAAAARRRRDDDDDDD!

Baby steps. It's hard to know where the "real" Martell Webster will eventually fall on the production continuum, but it's great to know that he's still capable of getting us all a bit excited :)

Re: ALL ABOOOOOOAAAAARRRRDDDDDDD!

There are certain players that if you play them 4 quarters, one of the quarters they will get extremely hot and make up for what they did the rest of the game, even if they threw up a doughnut for the rest of it. When Martell is on, he is all over it that is for sure. Wax-On, Wax-Off!

Re: ALL ABOOOOOOAAAAARRRRDDDDDDD!

I'm a fan of Webster and have defended him in the past. I'm happy to see him have a nice game. I think he needs starter mins to get in rhythm. Consistency has been a problem so hopefully he'll be a lot more consistent.

Great Game By Webster

Someone may have posted it already, but Webster really stepped up last night and showed and all-around game that we had not seen all season.

Very promising if he can continue to play well and take some defensive pressure off of Roy by guarding the opposing SF.

Re: Great Game By Webster

It was a nice time. Lets just hope he didn't hurt himself too bad padding stats in garbage time.

Re: Great Game By Webster

he played well...

it would be nice to see even half of that on a regular basis.

I don't want to diminish what he did last night, considering the competition and his history of inconsistency, because ultimately this team needs a productive and efficient Martell if they want to have any kind of success this year. Hopefully this was the "get well game" he needed and we'll see a rejuvenated Webster, but as always I need to see this kind of game more than once a season, and in general he's got to cut the games where he goes 0-5 from the floor while also racking up dumb fouls left and right.

Maybe the real problem is that he's better being an outlet guy (a fourth option as it were) in a starting unit versus a first or second option off the bench, where he seems to press too much and can't seem to settle himself down and play compactly and within himself.

Here's to hoping last night was less fluke and more norm.

I am a HUGE Webster fan.

10 more games like (Well good decisions, knocking down the shot and playing tough D) that and I will be a believer. Been burned too many times before wanting him to succeed off a once game great performance.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY want him to succeed, so please turn the corner Webs.

Could it be because he's starting now? Now that he's not the #3 option on the team? He can comfortably go out there and play hard D and feel more relaxed?

Who knows. I've long thought Martell gets the yips when the pressure is on, and maybe him being a featured guy on a second unit gets into his head where he feels like he really needs to explode and run teams off the floor with his offense. The trouble is, when you're pressing trying to score and have a "huge" game it sometimes blows up in your face.

With Webs I sometimes get the feeling I'm watching a stick of dynamite that's just as likely to blow up in your hand as it is to blow up where you want it. He brings tons of energy, but it needs more focus and maybe that exists where he only has to do a couple of things playing alongside better go to guys in Roy, Aldridge and Oden.

I can agree with that. The amazing thing is when his game is on, he almost looks "super star" in talent. Unfortunately for us, he does it few and far between. I would be most happy with him letting the game come to him and stop thinking about him having to contribute so much on the offensive end.

I remember Kersey had that same problem when he first came in. Only until he decided to take defense as his #1 priority was when his offense came to him. Maybe it's just about relaxing.

Re: ALL ABOOOOOOAAAAARRRRDDDDDDD!

He will have some great games and then he will disappear history has showed us this.

Re: ALL ABOOOOOOAAAAARRRRDDDDDDD!

James Jones was a stiff two years ago. I certainly don't want him back now.

I can see why you wouldn't like him: he's one of those players whose mere presence seemed to help us win games, without his influence being reflected in individual stats. Kinda like Steve Blake, really.

Isn't he the Blazer career leader in 3-point %?

James Jones had a bad PER. The Blazers need more players like Zach Randolph and SAR to win games.

Ed O. is quite the PER hound, isn't he?

Yeah, that Blazers team was a special one.

And his intangibles have endeared him with that Heat team, haven't they?

He's awesome. My bad.

I wonder if moving Webster to the starting spot actually improved his game? I mean not because he wanted to start, but that he isn't asked to be the 2nd or third option off the bench. I actually really like Webster starting because he focuses on defense more and will get the ball from Roy's penetration or Oden's post kick out. Regardless, I just really hope this isn't a fluke. Please Webster, for the love of God, take last night's game and incorporate it to your current future. We don't need you to score 20 a night, but just make good decisions with the ball and play solid D.

Re: ALL ABOOOOOOAAAAARRRRDDDDDDD!

Yeah, that Blazers team was a special one.

You're being sarcastic (shame!) but name me another Blazers team that had a 13-win streak. With LaMarcus out for some of it (but Jones out for none of it).

And his intangibles have endeared him with that Heat team, haven't they?

They've been listening to you. Never a good idea.

He's awesome. My bad.

Careful, one day you'll be sneering and your face will freeze like that.

Well I hope Webster has another good game tonight. I would love to see Webster get a break and turn into a pretty good journeyman type player.
