Merged: Blazers control of media content....

It's sad that we are stuck with d-bags like Crapzano, Quick, and Jaynes here in Portland.

Yeah. The Oregonian sports coverage is a fucking sewer. They cover the local sports beats as if it this place was New York or LA with micro certainty. A Ducks player has inconsisent bowel movement and they release a slide show of former Duck players who'be had similar problems. Then Canzano will tie it into a dieting specialist you can listen to on his fucking show.

This is a sleepy town where sports is a secondary pastime. Not a burgeoning metropolis..... They just want over-hopped beer and a fucking sandwich.

I like Freeman.

I like Freeman.

Hey. I'm sure there are some decent writers and editors who work there. They don't control the policies or working methods the parent company demands. I'm just looking at the overall product. I realize not every media outlet can be the LA Times of SF Chronicle.

I remember when Jaynes got fired by the Oregonian. He wrote for the free Portland Tribune (not sure if he even got paid for that)

Jaynes wasn't fired, he was hired by Pamplin to be the founding editor of The Portland Tribune. He hired Eggers to work there. Not a fan of Jaynes but he did a pretty good job of starting the Trib.

This is from Canzano's article:

"Ropp was speaking his mind when he got sacked, which in theory, is what he was paid to do. I support his right to do so. Again, in theory. Because the Blazers and CSNNW are in business together. I can't say I'm surprised it ended this way. Same goes for authentic Mike Barrett and the free-thinking Mike Rice, who were fired and replaced by a broadcast team that is embarrassingly effusive in its praise for this losing team."

So Barrett and Rice were free thinkers? Give me a fucking break. How many times did we make fun of Mike and Mike over the years for sugar coating things. And they should have. No one wants to listen to a broadcast when the team is getting their asses kicked and be subjected to 2 hours of criticism. We are already annoyed when our team is losing, we don't need to be annoyed by the announcers too!

Fucking Canzano taking shots at Calabro and Hurd for doing their job. What a prick.

Well that was pretty stupid of him then. You can get away with saying those things on your local radio show, but when you tweet that out knowing, and hoping, that it gets retweeted throughout the NBA media world, then you are asking for it. The tweets were a direct slap in the face to Blazer management....... what did he expect?

Authentic.... Free-Thinking?! Jesus H. Christ!

OK, it wasn't THAT funny:

I like Mike Barrett, but the only way he was "authentic" was in the sense that he grew up in the state and was a fan before he was hired.

If he was fired for having negative opinions of the Blazers, how does Jaynes still have a job then? He's constantly critical of the team. Maybe they didn't like his ascot?

Not that I love Quick, but please dear god, why NOT Dwight Jaynes. What incriminating dirt does he have on Neil Olshey and/or Paul Allen that keeps him employed?

BNM

Olshey and Dwight are on good terms and even when Jaynes is on the negative side, it's pretty soft these days.

were those tweets before or after he got fired?

Most of those were 'After'. He was fired well before he announced it on his show or Twitter.

Sorry if this has been posted already; I haven't looked through all 6 pages of this thread.

But I'm reading this article right now:

Sounds like a bunch of bullshit to me. There's no way I'd put up with this; especially not from some dick bag like Paul Allen. Even if it got me fired, I'd give him an ear-full.

I know that Canzano can be a bit of a douche. But he's also incredibly smart, and I admire his brutal honesty, and his desire to get to the bottom of a story.

To me, this seems like a bunch of totalitarian bullshit from the Blazers management and ownership.

You had me going there for a while. Then I realized there were two other angles I had not considered. One is that you were being
sarcastic, and two..... you are actually Canzano. Well played sir!

Ropp handled his firing the exact way a whiny bitch like him would have. He really showed them they made the wrong decision!

You don't think Canzano is smart? Really?

He's survived this long, so he's obviously doing something right.

Yes I think he is smart enough to be an excellent writer. But I would never say he is "incredibly" smart when he has come up with some of the most asinine theories, comments and lies over the years.

The brutally honest description though is what I disagree with most. There is nothing honest about him. Sure sometimes he says what he believes, but most of the time he says things he does not believe, just to get a reaction. To me that is not being "brutally honest". But lets just say he really does believe everything he says.......then there is no way in hell he is "incredibly smart".

If you say so. I guess.

Personally, I don't read or watch much of him, ever. In fact, I asked him one question on twitter a year ago, and got a decent response. Since then, I haven't seen so much as a word typed up from him, until today.

But the few times I've seen him over the years, he seems pretty....what's the word.....forward in his approach to issues involving the Blazers and sports in general. And I like those who are forward; who don't beat around the bush.

That being said, I can understand why people think he's a bit of a douche. That attitude can rub people the wrong way.

If you disagree, then great. You probably know more about him than I do, so there you go.

Ok, so that didn't come out quite right on my part. What you said was funny, and I can only assume you ment it to be. From the looks, I'd say you can't use that line anymore. You probably could do stuff for them. I'd go a tad bit lighter on the blue makeup though....

Oh, it was definitely intended to be funny, given that they usually employ teen and preteen models.

Yeah, that's my witness protection program selfie.
