Going to be the Jazz beat reporter for the Salt Lake City Tribune.
 
OT: Brian T. Smith heading to Utah

Apparently, the Salt Lake Tribune offered him a toxic contract that the Columbian was unable to match. Happy Trails to the best blazer writer in the metro area! :cheers:

Well that just sucks. He was easily my favorite local writer. Why couldn't it have been Quick or Clownzano? It's a sad day for Blazer Fans. Now we have to rely on propaganda from the team (Courtside, WAW, Barret blog which are all at least entertaining and semi-informative) or utter garbage like the garbage Quick and Clownzano write. :(

He will be missed, but I have faith that the Columbian will fill his spot with a solid reporter.

That's sad. The Columbian's resources are just so limited, though, so good for him in taking a real gig. He was real good at his job, and was a good complement with his level-headedness compared to Quick's continued drama and saga going on all the time.

Too bad.

Jason Quick is good but you haters need to lay off him.

However i will say it is too bad Brian Smith is leaving

I believe Joe Freeman will take over for Smith he is playing second fiddle to Quick right now and he would get to show he is just as good as quick and not in his shadow.
 
Hell most people in the newspaper business can see the end of their career coming.

Wendell Maxey is just as good as Smith IMO....lets keep Trending Topics on twitter though.
 
I like Brian Smith because he doesn't seem to have an agenda. When Quick or even more so Canzano reports something, I'm always wondering if they are reporting or is this some kind self created hype, personal vendetta or maybe just an agent using one as a media puppet.

I understand the hate for Clownazo but Quick has done a good job.

Has he made mistakes sure but name ONE writer who has not made a few errors ??

Name one and i will be willing to jump on the Quick Hate wagon


He made a error is saying he thought Marc Iveroni would be the next coach about 5 or 6 years ago and some of you cannot forgive or forget it. Also Zano and him covered the Jailblazers like they should have the problem is Quick let things move on but Zano playing the Black hat bad guy and seemed to only write about the Blazers when things were going bad and hardly ever a positive piece.

You know the problem is back then the Blazers were a joke and EVERYONE knew it but it was like the family drunk we knew about it but do not talk about so when Zano and Quick wrote about it and did a good job it was like letting out a dark family secret or something and they were crucified for it and were never really forgiven for it.

I couldn't care less about Quick making mistakes occasionally, it's the fact that he has clearly become too emotionally involved with covering the team; he's taken sides when it comes to players, management, etc. and rarely "reports" things any more. Case in point, he was clearly a pro Blake guy at the start of training camp last year and he was very anti Andre Miller and it had nothing to do with who was the better player, it was all about being on friendly terms with Steve and Miller being a quiet dude who kept to himself. Furthermore, when KP got the axe he sounded like somebody had shot his dog, calling it a "Dark, dark day in Trailblazers history." He just strikes me as somebody who has lost any sense of objectivity.

I could be wrong but i do not think i am but if i recall correctly is was his partner at the Oregonian and O-Live Freeman who wrote the piece that ticked Andre off that caused him to get upset and NOT Quick.

I am getting irritated by the Quick hate but i am not going to change the minds of closed minded folks so i will agree to disagree on this subject with those who dislike Quick and move on.

Anyway this topic is about Smith leaving and not Quick so i am sorry if i am slowly driving this topic off subject i did not mean to do so. GO BLAZERS
 
Too bad! He was great. Maxey is also very good. I wish Brian luck, he will be missed!

Couldn't have said it better.
I actually like Quick and think he's a really talented writer, but his objectivity is all lost.. He's like a reporter/fan now, and has injected his opinion into too many stories.

Smith was a straight-to-the-facts kind of guy like Brian Hendrickson was before. Hopefully The Columbian hires a similar-type guy or else there'll just be too many emotional ups and downs if Quick is the primary source for info.

I'll never forget the Quick chat on O-Live awhile ago where it sounded like he was almost about to cry on air about something, I don't remember what. It was one of the most bizarre things I've ever heard.

Quick's love affair with $amon was inexplicable and his pro-$amon bias was ever present. I've never liked the way he would rather write melodrama than report on sports. It seems like nobody gives him any inside info. Otherwise, he's not bad.

Quick makes frequent appearances on the various 95.5 The Game shows, so it's not just a matter of what he reports in print, it's what he reports on the air too that colors my opinion of him.

Excellent. The drop in quality from Brian Hendrickson to Brian T Smith was unfortunate, hopefully we go back to Brian Hendrickson level quality.
